Life & Work with Dom O’Bannon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dom O’Bannon.

Hi Dom, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born and raised in Kokomo, IN and always felt like an outsider in that environment. I love my hometown but it was clear early on that I would outgrow it. I knew from a young age that I was more of a city kid and my desire was to provide for myself by simple being myself. I moved to Brooklyn, New York two weeks after college graduation and worked an unpaid fashion internship with Liberty Fairs trade show company helping produce trade shows in New York and Las Vegas. The fashion industry was fun but quickly showed me I did not want to restrict myself to one industry and event production allowed me the freedom and flexibility to work across industry lines. I used the skills I learned from school and my internship to land multiple positions producing events all over the country working with Soho House, Soho Works, Fashion Snoops, REVOLT TV, and Sixty Hotels to name a few.

Additionally, working for myself has allowed me the space to explore and pour more energy into my creativity and spirituality which lead to the birth of my love for tarot and community building. I feel that we all are connected to Spirit in our own way, but naturally, we all have different communication styles as humans. I myself am more of a visual learner. I have always felt extremely connected to the universe and that I had “something to say”, but struggled to find the communication channel that worked best for me. Once I was introduced to tarot and was able to match visuals with the messages I was receiving intuitively – my connection with myself and the universe began to expand in a way I had never felt before. In short, I think the universe can communicate with us through infinite channels if we are open to it – and as a servant, it’s my job to show people the power that already lives inside of them so they can use it to their benefit whether that be applied to personal or business development. I offer my readings as a guide through life, not a crutch. My only goal is that you leave the session feeling empowered to make decisions you feel good about and to feel less alone in this journey of life.

Overall, I feel blessed to be in a position where I am finally able to support and provide for myself by simply using the gifts I have.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Honestly – yes and no. I say no because on a surface level, I have worked my ass off. I am pretty private when it comes to my career journey and tend to only share my wins but I can think if times living in New York and having a negative bank account with no idea of when the next check or contract would come along. I can think of so many days where I would literally have to fight the urge to just go home to Indiana and get a job. The struggle was always lack of clarity which always blocks your money. I learned how important it is to be extremely clear about what you desire and where you would like to go – or else you are just wandering aimlessly with no clear route to create abundance. I would always be annoyed at not getting the job or the idea of missing an opportunity, but once I got clear on my desires and my direction – I realized the things I “missed out” on or felt made my road rough were never meant for me to begin with. They missed me on purpose in order to put me on the correct path – one that is meant to be smooth and I feel I’ve finally connected to that path.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I think the tarot reading component of my work is extremely unique. I love that I have clients who not only trust me with their business but their spirit as well and allow me to explore that part of myself in real-time. Since the age of two, I’ve had my mom, dad, and stepmom who have all been extremely supportive in my personal and career journeys. My mom taught me how to speak my mind and command the attention of a room. My stepmom and I share the same astrological sign, so we have always been interested in similar things. She actually gifted me all of the supplies I needed to start offering tarot readings professionally. Then there’s my dad, who has taught me every spiritual principle that I live by today such as the law of attraction and the power of affirmations. He is absolutely brilliant, and we are working on releasing a book we co-wrote together which I am extremely proud of! I thank them often for pouring into me in the ways they did, and I try to pour that exact same love and energy into every client. I really enjoy combining all of my personal influences and interests to create a unique and special experience that can serve others.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
I really learned to slow down. which ultimately gave me clarity on what I wanted to be a part of my life and what I did not. I had been in New York for about five years at that point and was used to going 100 MPH on autopilot. I left New York in January of 2020 right before covid was on the rise, and took four months off in Florida to be with my dad through the pandemic. During that time, I biked, went swimming often, danced in the backyard, wrote my first book, saw my dad cry for the first time in my life, started my tarot Youtube channel … the list goes on. Although the world was in such a chaotic place, the covid-19 shutdown really gave my life the long deep breath it needed. I was able to take a pause and refocus.
