Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Leslie.
Hi Diana, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey as a sculpt and barre instructor began in a way I never could have imagined—with an 18-wheeler rear-ending me and changing the course of my life.
The accident left me with tears in my L4 and L5 vertebrae, and suddenly, something as simple as working out—or even wearing heels—was no longer something I could take for granted. After countless doctor visits, spinal injections, and physical therapy appointments, I was determined to find a way to heal my body and reclaim my strength.
That’s when my college roommate introduced me to heated sculpt and barre classes.
What started as a workout quickly became so much more. I found myself spending what felt like every free moment at the studio. The heat, the movement, the music, and the community gave me an outlet I desperately needed. For the first time since my accident, I felt like I was reconnecting with my body rather than fighting against it.
One day, the studio manager approached me and asked if I had ever considered becoming barre certified.
My immediate response was, “Let me think about it. I’m way too busy for this.”
At the time, I had no idea that those words would eventually lead me toward a completely new chapter of my life.
A few months later, I found myself in a period of transition, searching for guidance and reassurance that I was on the right path. I traveled to Tulum hoping to find some clarity—and instead, I found an answer.
Follow that dream.
The message resonated deeply. I realized I was being guided back to the very practice that had helped heal not only my body, but also my mind and spirit. Maybe my injury hadn’t simply taken something from me. Maybe it had redirected me toward something greater.
I realized I was meant for more than simply taking classes. I was meant to help others experience the same sense of strength, healing, and connection that movement had given me.
When I returned to LA, I completed my barre training and mentorship program and began teaching. I fell in love with it almost immediately. Teaching became an extension of my own healing journey—an opportunity to create a space where people could feel stronger, more confident, and more connected to themselves.
I eventually became certified in sculpt as well, and what began as a way to heal my own body became a calling to help others heal theirs.
Today, I am a Sculpt instructor at Diosa Pilates and a Barre instructor at Hot 8 Yoga. Every class I teach is a reminder of how far I’ve come—and of the unexpected ways life can lead us exactly where we are meant to be.
What started with an accident ultimately became a journey of purpose. I thought I was searching for a way to get my old body back. Instead, I found a new version of myself—and a dream worth following.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The transition wasn’t a smooth ride.
I was learning how to balance a demanding corporate career, my personal life, and a new passion that was quickly becoming a major part of my identity. There were moments when I questioned whether I could really do it all. Imposter syndrome was very real. I had to navigate the opinions of people who didn’t necessarily believe in me, as well as the pressure to become the person others thought I should be.
Eventually, I realized that I couldn’t build an authentic life by constantly listening to everyone else’s expectations.
Movement became my outlet—not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. It gave me a place to quiet the outside noise, reconnect with myself, and remember why I started in the first place.
I learned that becoming your most authentic self requires trusting your own voice. You can’t find what makes you unique by trying to fit into someone else’s mold. You have to find your spark. You have to understand your why. And, most importantly, you have to be willing to follow it—even when other people don’t understand it yet.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
By day, I’m a Strategic Marketing Manager at a tech company; by night, I’m a Sculpt and Barre instructor. I’m proud of the growth I’ve experienced in both worlds and, most importantly, of the faith I’ve developed in myself and in the work I’m called to do.
What sets me apart is that my journey into fitness didn’t begin with a desire to become an instructor—it began with a need to heal. After my accident, movement became my outlet, my source of strength, and ultimately, a way for me to find my happiness and sense of purpose again. That experience completely changed the way I approach teaching.
I bring that personal journey into every class through healing energy, a welcoming spirit, and, of course, a little bit of spiciness! I want everyone who walks into my class to feel seen, challenged, supported, and empowered to be exactly who they are.
Interestingly, becoming an instructor has also made me a better marketer. Both roles require you to understand people, create connection, tell a compelling story, and make people feel something. My corporate career has strengthened my strategic mindset, while teaching has deepened my ability to connect authentically with people. Together, those two worlds have shaped the instructor—and the marketer—I am today.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The quality I believe has been most important to my success is resilience—but more specifically, the ability to keep believing in myself, even when things don’t go according to plan.
My journey has taught me that success isn’t always about having everything figured out. It’s about being willing to evolve, trust yourself, and keep moving forward when the path feels uncertain. I’ve had to overcome physical challenges, career transitions, imposter syndrome, and the opinions of people who didn’t always see the vision I had for myself.
I’ve learned that I can’t let other people’s expectations define who I become. I have to trust my own spark, stay connected to my “why,” and have the courage to follow it.
That mindset has shaped both sides of my life. In marketing, it allows me to think strategically and embrace change. As an instructor, it allows me to create a space where people feel supported, challenged, and empowered. My success has come from understanding that growth rarely happens inside your comfort zone—and having the resilience to keep showing up anyway.
For me, success isn’t about becoming someone else’s version of successful. It’s about becoming the strongest, most authentic version of myself.
