Today we’d like to introduce you to Capitola Parker.
Capitola, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Well, I’m a Realtor and Homemaker and have been in entertainment my entire life. I’m a SoCal Gal, Hollywood born/ Los Angeles raised. Really nothing about me is without some element of suspense, drama, action, or pizazz. I was born more than a month early in the summer of 1983. I’ve been told stories of having literally coded without cause and suddenly laughing moments later as a child. I’ve learned to live some of the deepest heartaches and have experienced some of life’s biggest excitements. These life experiences have shaped both my personal and professional drive. Amongst my three degrees, I studied to become a Real Estate agent more than 12 years before actually getting licensed in 2019. In the interim, I focused on acting, school, and family – in no particular order. It was my own Realtor who encouraged me to finally get my license when I purchased my first house. The rest, as they say, is history.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely NOT! When I started practicing Real Estate, I was shocked to find, nothing is given to you and nothing we do in practice is taught in school or on the licensing exam. I was with a big name brokerage that really only saw me for the desk fees I paid. I quickly became broke and I was forced to borrow money from other agents to pay my MLS dues. I remember learning quickly, if you don’t know how to talk the business, you will lose many potential clients. Another hard reality to accept was friends and family will likely be the minority of your supporters. That was very tough for me because I am very loyal to my family and friends. I don’t do for them with the expectation of reciprocity, but it certainly helps! It was ten months before I closed my first deal. The silver lining, my good friend referred me to the client.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m known as The Real Celebrity Realtor across social media because I am a real actress. Therefore, I am the “celebrity”. I have been classy trained in dance, theatre, and I grew up singing in my church. I still perform, but much of my recent years have been consumed with raising my small family and adjusting to life without my mother and brother. Real Estate has always been a desire of mine when off set or stage. I am an expert in both luxury real estate as well as with first-time buyers. I am most known for the rapport I have built with my clients and community. I have a knack for reducing the stressors of selling and buying a home and I make the experiences of my clients like none other. Each receives custom edited videos upon closing, a nod to my background in film. I am distinguished from my colleagues due to my broad range of knowledge. I believe there’s a place in Real Estate for a great deal of my talents. Being multi-hyphenated has afforded me the psychological experience to target clients’ core needs as well as mediate their emotional challenges throughout the often dreary process. My exposure to the legal field, having had a paralegal for a mother, comes in great advantage when negotiating contracts and challenging discrepancies for clients. As you can imagine, I always win. I’m most proud of having accomplished all that I have in such a short time while battling intermittent bouts with depression. I have not had it easy. I lost my mother to cancer, I have had many miscarriages’, seen family battle drug addiction, and I have buried a child. It has been these experiences that drive me to succeed. I’m still here for a reason. Seeing the joy on my client’s faces when I hand them their keys or tell them we’ve closed escrow is a blessing and it keeps me going.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Patience and consistency is truly key! Never compare your professional journey to others. You don’t know if they’re paying for leads or being fed leads. A top-producing agent isn’t always the most knowledgeable in the room. Anyone can appear to be successful if they’re being spoon-fed their clientele. Trust the process by learning the basics of home loans, reading up on the current market and where the market is going, then consistently tell the world about it! This will keep your business strong and affluent for many years. People are always watching you and your business even if they aren’t engaging with your social media page or responding to your emails.
