Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelica Trygar.
Hi Angelica, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well, it took a bit to figure out where to start. As a child, I was always a singer. I started singing in my church’s band at the age of 8, with all of the other members being adults. I had dreams of becoming a professional singer in whatever way I can. As I got older, I realized that I had to do multiple things to increase my percentage of success in the entertainment industry. I had a short span of attempting to do opera, but my mother gave me another idea. She gave me the idea of doing Musical Theatre. I went to school at Columbia College Chicago and studied Musical Theatre. I commuted back and forth each day to make sure my mom was taken care of. As I was studying at Columbia College, I realized that I had to expand what I pursued in order to increase my chances of success once again. I started networking and getting myself into student and independent films. I grew to fall in love with doing films because when I got the footage, I would be able to show my mother my performances right away. I always had the dream of being represented in multiple cities. At the time when my mother was sick, I made sure to keep myself based in Chicago. Now, being 5 years after she passed, I am represented in multiple cities, and I look back at what I have accomplished, and I am so proud. Last year, I started a YouTube channel called Acting Savvy, which is me giving advice to people, reviewing products, and doing vlogs. This year I am going to focus on improving the quality of my audio and editing and provide my audience with professional quality in my videos.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
To be honest, it was never a smooth road. When I first started taking acting as a potential career, my mother was sick. Whenever I was at a theatre show I wanted her to come so badly, but she was never able to attend. She gave me the idea to start doing films so she could see me perform. I would show her every single student and independent film I was in before she passed. I remember being so heartbroken when I got footage for the first project that landed up on Amazon Prime UK a couple weeks after my mother’s passing. I would do anything to have had her see me in that project. After my mother passed, I didn’t know what I was going to do with my life. If it wasn’t for people in the industry getting me out to do temporary brand ambassador gigs, I don’t know what I would’ve done honestly. Luckily, fate was in my favor and people came along in my life who made sure I didn’t give up. Deborah Bulgrin, my music mom, let me do grocery shopping for her in exchange for voice lessons. I had people in the independent film industry get me out to be on set, and that got me through a lot of things. I realized that with hardships there are angels that will come into your life along the way and make sure you land on the path you were meant to be in. I believe this was definitely what happened to me.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
My favorite childhood memory was definitely being in theatre shows. I still remember my first musical Annie when I had to go up with my class with smiles, we made to perform the song “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile.” I also remember being Little Red Riding Hood in a park district show. I still remember the theatre space perfectly and sitting in a circle going over lines like it was yesterday.
