Today we’d like to introduce you to Amira Noor.
Hi Amira, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Since I was a little girl, I always wanted to be a model and singer. While growing up, I would make my school friends take pictures of me almost every time we would hang out after school. I started singing at the age of 10 and would perform at all the school events. In my last year of high school, I applied to Berklee College of Music.
Before attending Berklee, I went to Mumbai, India for the summer and started getting modeling opportunities there. I then fell in love with Mumbai and decided to take a gap year and pursue my modeling career in India. While I was in Mumbai, I appeared in numerous print shoots as well as tv commercials and 1 Bollywood film. I enjoyed being on the big screen a lot and decided I wanted to pursue acting as well. By the time I started settling down in the industry, my gap year was coming to an end and I knew I had to attend Berklee as it was an amazing opportunity. Throughout Berklee, I had the chance to only focus on my music. During the holidays, I would come back home to Geneva, Switzerland and do modelling gigs. I learnt a lot at Berklee and was able to grow as a singer-songwriter and performer. Towards the end of Berklee, I started working with an amazing team of musicians and producers on my first single “One More Time.” After graduating, I decided to move to Los Angeles and release my single. Today I am pursuing my music, modeling and acting career in LA and Mumbai.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I knew I wanted to become a model and singer, I was very nervous as to what my parents would say. Luckily they were super supportive and allowed me to pursue it. I was also afraid about what people at school would think as it was something so different. I definitely got bullied along the way but I never let it stop me. After getting into the modeling industry, I struggled a lot with my physical and mental health. It is a very cutthroat industry. I never thought I could become a model as my height always got in the way. However, today the modeling standards are changing rapidly. Appearing in tv commercials was not a smooth road at all as I had to go through many auditions and learn to be patient and not give up so easily. Sometimes I would wait for 5 hours to give one audition and then never hear back. I learnt that the industry is very lonely and making friends is not easy as the competition is very high.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a singer-songwriter, model and actor. I am most proud of my first single as well as my modeling work. I think what sets me apart from others is my multi-diverse background being from Asia and Europe.
Any big plans?
I am working on releasing a lot of new music as well as collaborations as I love working with other musicians. I am also working on expanding my modeling portfolio in the US. In terms of acting, I am focusing on it in between Mumbai and LA. I am excited to work hard in all three different industries and grow as an artist.
