Life & Work with Alex Mills of LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Mills.

Hi Alex, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was always making silly youtube videos growing up but never really thought of acting as a career until my senior year of college after enrolling in some intro courses and discovering an itch for performing. I started doing any background work I could get my hands on and ended up on the set for a series of western features being created in the span of 12 months. After proving my ability to walk and stand adequately, I was offered some occasional lines after offering up my ability to ride horses. From there I landed a lead role in a short titled ‘ The Bank Robbery’ after one of the actors backed out. This opportunity led me to receiving 2 awards for best supporting actor along with several other lead role opportunities for features in other genres.
After moving to LA and continuing my career I have been fortunate enough to play the main antagonist in the award winning short, Junk Male (2023), directed by Ella Purnell, star of Amazon’s Fallout. I also play the lead in the upcoming found footage horror-comedy feature film Content (2026), recently screened at Horrorigins Film Festival & Film Independent, Q&A moderated by Tyler Gillett (Ready or Not, Scream).
Today, I am working on writing a short film of my own along with preparing to act in three other additional feature films with both lead and supporting roles. I am incredibly fortunate to have discovered a career path I am truly passionate about and will continue to act as long as time allows me!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Obstacles
Coming from a business background, a “late start,” no true idea of direction, and no connection to the industry there were numerous challenges I had to sort out and continue to do so. Similar to all other actors there is always the obstacle of motivation and rejection but if i had to pick the largest challenge for me personally i would have to say time.

Time: Without my passion for acting that I fortunately found I don’t think any of this would be happening. I come from whatever the polar opposite of the entertainment industry is so learning not only how to act but navigate the field has been challenging. Trying to create/update/maintain all of the “career items” that come with this pursuit has been extremely difficult to manage. However, I am a firm believer in the saying “you make time for the things you care about” which I have done and will continue to do.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Along with the screen acting I also enjoy voice acting when possible AND if there is any leftover time I have an assortment of hobbies ranging from musical instruments and competitive clay shooting to wildland firefighting and rollerskating.

I try to always utilize my time when I have it and finding new hobbies and skills to refine has been a big thing for me since moving out to LA.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
the cocky answer would be to say my performance and while I do think I put on a great show, my personality has definitely been a huge factor to my success. I really enjoy being outside and having a laugh so being able to bring that to this creative side of my life has surly impacted others views and opportunities through word of mouth.

My work work can be intense so being able to interact with fun and interesting people in a completely different field helps make my personality shine through as I can just be myself.
