Life & Work with ALEO of Los Angeles / OC

Today we’d like to introduce you to ALEO.

Hi ALEO, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I grew up in Bogotá, Colombia, and music was always the center of my life. I took drum lessons from 10 to 12, studied classical guitar from 16 to 18, and then picked up bass and keyboard before moving to the US. While I was still a college student, I performed a song I wrote at a talent show. One of the judges owned a studio, and he invited me on the spot to come work with his clients. I kept going to class while I started producing there, and that’s where everything began. Since then my production work has earned a Grammy for Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album on Juanes’ Vida Cotidiana and a Latin Grammy for Best Pop/Rock Album, and I produced and co-wrote on a Young Thug album that reached the top 10 of the Billboard 200. Today I run Mania Records from my studio in Culver City, and I’m focused on my own artist project, which is multi-genre and multi-language.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s never a smooth road, there are always challenges. What I’ve learned is that as your skills and experience grow, it gets easier to find bigger opportunities to keep growing. Every obstacle has pushed me to get better at what I do, and that’s what has opened the next door.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a Grammy award winning producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. My production work includes the Grammy for Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album on Juanes’ Vida Cotidiana, a Latin Grammy for Best Pop/Rock Album, and a Young Thug album that reached the top 10 of the Billboard 200. I’m known for range, moving between trap, rock, R&B, electronic and Latin rhythms, in English and Spanish. What I’m proudest of right now is being able to work with artists at the top of their game in a variety of genres, and I like to challenge myself to keep expanding that.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love most about LA is the musical diversity. I’m deeply passionate about exploring the unknown, and here you can find every sound and culture in one city. What I like least is that it’s a big city and a tough business, so it can be hard to know who to trust and what people’s real intentions are.
