Life & Work with Adelyn Baber

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adelyn Baber.

Hi Adelyn, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Out of high school, I got a job doing graphic design that led to me learning photography in college. I then took the passion I developed in that field and pursued starting my own business. I’m now an award-winning photographer, entrepreneur, and mother of four. Over the past 13 years, I have photographed for Vogue, VOLENT, Elegant, StyleCut magazine, etc. and have been an integral part of the fashion scene throughout Arizona. I try to provide a unique, conceptual perspective and bold impact throughout all of my work. I live in Arizona with my husband and children, where I am devoted and passionate about life, collaborating with other creatives and always planning the next photoshoot.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth the road, but I have had a lot of support which has definitely helped! I’d say a struggle I had was overcoming my fear of rejection and inadequacy. When I decided it was OK to be told no Or that I wasn’t a good fit for some things and take constructive criticism well, things changed. It took a while, but now I am happy with my ever-growing network of collaborators and what it took to get where I am. The good and the bad parts were necessary for me to grow.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an editorial portrait photographer that specializes in fashion (avant-garde and beauty). I approach fashion in a creative and conceptual manner using movement and rich tones to give a storytelling element to my pictures. I would say at this time, one of my most proud moments was having a couple of my images featured in British Vogue twice last year. It was a surreal moment to have my name in a magazine I have looked at since I was a child. I try to bring passion, excitement and a good energy to all of my shoots. Hopefully leaving a good lasting memory with my clients.

What does success mean to you?
Being happy, truly happy with what you’re doing, while still being able to make a living. Looking forward to the next time you get to do it. Also, that my children grow up kind and happy. That would make me feel successful.
