Life and Work with Misty Powell, MA, RYT, MT-BC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Misty Powell, MA, RYT, MT-BC.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Misty. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born and raised in an urban neighborhood in Houston, Texas where I had to quickly learn the art of survival. I didn’t come from a privileged family, in fact, it was quite toxic. At the tender age of 16, I left my mothers home to live with my grandmother, which wasn’t that different and often resulted in me staying with my best friends or my Godmother Allease Shepard. She took me in like her own when I didn’t have an ideal place to go. Ms. Shepard was my school registrar, she was really nice, nurturing and provided me with a beautiful motherly experience while at the same time, overcoming breast cancer. I truly believe she was heaven sent. Ms. Shepard is one of the strongest women I know. I am so grateful to have her in my life as she set a great example of what it means to be a survivor.

In high school, I dedicated my time and energy to extracurricular activities such as: Captain of the majorette team, President of Worthy Ladies mentorship program, Theater & member of track and field team. Being involved with so many activities help me take my mind off of the toxic home environment I was living in all the while working full time. After school, I’d ride the bus to my place of employment and worked till 12 am in the morning, then ride the bus home to do it all over again the next day. After six months, I was able to buy myself a used car to get back and forth from school & work. I did this for three years straight until my collegiate career. I am forever grateful for all of the mothers in my community that helped raise and push me towards higher levels of achievement.

I learned early to cultivate a community of friends, family, and strong leaders. After graduation, I was accepted into Grambling State University where I received my nickname (Mystic), I have always been a modern-day ancient soul. There were times when I could feel my emotional body vibrating with great intensity, I would start to feel a trembling deep down in my soul which led to visions of my life path. I had to spend a lot of days and nights trusting spirit. So, I made sure to maintain physical and spiritual fitness. There has always been a strong longing for origin, it was as if I could feel all my ancestors living and breathing through me. For years, I suppressed these feelings & visions. After completing my Masters of Arts, I then moved to Los Angeles where the real healing journey began.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
During my last year of grad school, I was diagnosed with severe PTSD, I didn’t tell anyone out of fear of being judged, so I continued to play this role and put on a face all the while spiritually frustrated on the inside struggling from the pain of my childhood and current family dynamic. This would manifest in physical aches and pains, skin conditions, blurred vision, sometimes it would even be hard to hear. Determined to heal myself & create a union with my mind, body, and spirit I started diving into beautiful “wholistic” healing modalities such as yoga, meditation, sound therapy, water therapy, sacred sister circles, & wholistic ceremonies. I was eager to heal myself in hopes of healing my family bloodline. This was only the beginning I soon realized the lessons & obstacles never stop.

I have gone through so many deaths and rebirth shedding layers of my old self, old ways of thinking, breathing, eating, and being. Determined to uncover a new life, I’ve had to come face to face with my deepest pain and was forced to look at who I no longer wanted to be. Many nights I question this journey fearing the unknown but determined to never give up. I felt a longing deep inside of me to keep expanding my consciousness. I had no choice but to embrace my pain as fuel for the future striding boldly along my spiritual path.

I enlightened my self through the detachment of people, places, and things that didn’t serve my highest good. The decrement in minding my business, mental & physical wellbeing, lastly, positive integration from all the knowledge and training I experienced. As a result, I knew I was ready to rise and share my heart in practical ways. To assist other people in my community & around the world connect to a natural state of wholeness.

Advice for other women is to never give up on yourself, know that you have a divine purpose and you were brought into this world to fulfill that purpose never ever lose sight of that. Come back to the breath you can breathe your way through anything. Mindful breathing allows you to experience the path of least resistance. Whatever you are going through is preparing you for greater life experiences. Understand that the heart cannot illuminate until it breaks. Look at lessons, disappointments, loss, emotions, & test like seasons. They come and go, but I assure you that they will not last. These gentle or rather harsh experiences are designed to trigger what no longer serves your higher self so continue to uncover deep depths of your natural being, awakening your spiritual, mental, & physical form. Be determined to transform your life and open your perspective.

Have the courage to get stronger, clear and precise in your life mission. So that you are able to rise to higher heights. Your lessons become your virtue. Learn to master the ebb and flow of life by welcoming an inner calm. Follow your heart and trust that you are guided by a greater source. You have the power, courage, strength, and discipline  to change the course of your life.

As a brand, I am most proud of my alchemy Misty Mist Essentials A high-frequency blend of rose water, imported healing essentials oils and crystal infused rose quartz. A little over three years ago, I started researching the vibrational frequency of essential oil and discovered that rose essential oil is the highest vibrational oil, vibrating at 320 MHZ. Everything on planet earth vibrates a certain vibrational frequency. We naturally vibrate at about 55-60 MHZ so when we use essential oils we instantly raise our vibrational frequency. Misty Mist Essentials was designed to keep the spirit of the beloved rose alive by nurturing and nourishing healing. Misty Mist Essentials Rosewater is a conversation piece as it instantly changes the frequency in a room. Misty Mist Essentials Rose Water is good for soothing heavy-heartedness, stress, depression, disconnection, low energy & heartache.

Misty Mist Essentials Rose Water came to me at a time when I was working with a group of women healing from emotional trauma. It works on multiple levels to increase and welcome more love and beauty. Misty Mist Essentials brings about a feeling of wholeness and fulfillment while nurturing self-love, willpower, & self-worth. Misty Mist Essentials is my Rose Therapy to the world nurturing the whole essence of being.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
I love to read books, when I was a little girl, I would always see my grandfather reading books I thought that was the coolest thing, if he was feeling up to it he would read to me. So now, as an adult, I love to physically hold a book in my hand and flip through the pages, it makes me feel at home in my heart. I don’t own a TV because my home is a personal library so when my friends come over I let them know  “If you wanna tune in pick out a book and read if you wanna change the channel, find another book” lol!

Here are my top five books that come to mind:

Light Emerging (The journey of personal healing ) by Barbara Ann Brennan

The Power of Love (Life Essentials) by Osho

The Search for the Beloved by Jean Houston

The Value in The Valley by Iyanla Vanzant

Heal Thyself for Health and Longevity by Queen Afua
