We recently had the chance to connect with Lawrence Flores and have shared our conversation below.
Lawrence, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: When was the last time you felt true joy?
I’ve been spending a lot of time with my parents recently. As we get older, there’s a lot of things we don’t have time, or don’t make the time for. Being caught up with adult life can be so stressful a lot of the times, but being with them brings me joy. truly. I can really focus a lot more of the projects I’ve been working on outside of music, just by being around them. They bring a lot of inspiration to my work, and it shows.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Lawrence Flores, born in antique, philippines, raised in the san fernando valley (20 min outside of los angeles). I am an artist, designer, music producer and writer. I’ve been producing music professionally for about 5 years now. at the same time, working on art, designing clothes and writing a film script in between.
I’m nearly finished with my first film script ever, and couldn’t be more excited. I recently bought a camera, and have been traveling to different spots in los angeles, and the san fernando valley for certain shot locations for the film.
–On my down time, aside from music, and aspirations of writing, as well, I’ve released my own street wear brand, you can check out on future-gospel.com. HELLO!
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
Everyone told me I needed to have a lot of money to be successful. I believed that at an early age. fast forward to now, I don’t believe it. I know a lot of people who have a lot of money and they still don’t feel as successful. now why is that? everyone has their own definition of being successful. to me, money doesn’t define success, it’s how many people you bless.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
you did it.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest lie was when the industry said “i needed to play the game their way”. So i stopped playing, and created my own game.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
The story I hope people tell about me was that I accomplished everything I wanted to do; creating long lasting true connections, music, art and I did it my way. wholeheartedly.
