Inspiring Conversations with Victoria Rico of Victoria’s beauty room

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Rico

Hi Victoria, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Your journey into the beauty industry is both inspiring and a testament to your dedication. Here’s a refined version of your story:

From a young age, I was captivated by the world of beauty. Unable to afford professional services, I became a DIY enthusiast, mastering hair styling and makeup techniques through YouTube tutorials. Friends soon noticed my skills and began requesting that I do their hair, makeup, and nails. It was then I realized my passion for the beauty industry, even if I wasn’t sure where I fit in.

During the pandemic, I earned my Associate’s Degree in Cosmetology. As the world began to reopen, I reached out to about 30 hairstylists on Instagram, seeking an opportunity to shadow and learn. Only one responded: Silvia, the master hairstylist and owner of The Glam Collective. Her kindness and patience were invaluable; she shared her extensive knowledge and continually encouraged me to improve.

Once I gained confidence, I started accepting my own clients. While I hoped to create fun hairstyles, many appointments involved correcting at-home hair color mishaps from the pandemic period. These challenging color corrections deepened my understanding of color theory and honed my problem-solving skills.

To attract my ideal clientele interested in alternative colors and styles, I began posting regularly on TikTok and Instagram. One evening, a video featuring a vibrant cherry red hairstyle went viral on TikTok. This exposure led to more viral videos, and my books being fully booked . Today, I proudly own my own suite at Sola Salon in Cudahy.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to have the unwavering support of the team at The Glam Collective. Their encouragement, especially during challenging client interactions, has been invaluable.

One significant struggle I faced was managing the separation between my personal life and business. Early on, I had difficulty declining client requests, often working after hours. This led to severe burnout and a temporary loss of passion for hairstyling. Recognizing the importance of personal time, I learned to establish boundaries, ensuring a healthier work-life balance.

This version maintains the essence of your experience while enhancing clarity and flow. If there are specific details you’d like to add or adjust, feel free to let me know!

We’ve been impressed with Victoria’s beauty room, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
