Today we’d like to introduce you to Rob Sandefer.
Hi Rob, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
After earning my BA and becoming the first ever in my family to graduate college, I went back to my blue-collar roots began working in Construction. After spending a few years working in different avenues, I worked towards getting my contractor license and, through relationships made in the business, started building for clients and developers in my hometown of Oxnard, California. One of these building relationships brought me to Los Angeles, close in proximity but a world away, building homes for spec with my partners. Upon realizing I knew the houses I was building better than anyone, and with a background in marking with my degree in Public Relations, it was a natural pivot to Real Estate sales. Starting in 2017 at The Agency in Brentwood, I found Real Estate sales to be a natural fit a quickly moved up the sales numbers to be one of the top 1% of agents in California. There were, of course, many low points and struggles along the way, but through a lot of work on myself and with the help of my Wife and Kids, I have come out in a great place and love spending my days selling real estate and enjoying family life on the Westside of LA.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The hard realities of a small-town construction worker, literally in the dirt every day, struggling to make ends meet with a Wife and newborn Daughter, and ultimately not realizing my potential was the low point for me to take a big step and move our family from the familiarity of our home town and move to Los Angeles, not really knowing anyone and having no connections, and starting a new career in Real Estate at 37 years old. A leap of faith that, through lots of introspection, hard work, and newfound help of meditation and studying the paths of success through reading and self-help, opened up a new life I didn’t think I would ever obtain.
We’ve been impressed with Real Estate, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I grew up on job sites, and homes have always been a part of my life. My Grandfather was a lather in the 1960s in the San Fernando Valley. In the early 70s, he wanted to escape the smog and heat of the valley, so he took his nest egg and family to Oxnard. Upon arriving he discovered opportunity in the way of cheap property in an unknown beach town between Malibu and Santa Barbara. He started building on these lots and passed that to my Father, and they were small town Contractors, going on to build over 200 homes between them. Growing up on these sites and seeing the process, meeting the players, and downloading everything I saw, heard, and learned gave me a unique and deep understanding of homes, what they are made up of, and how people live in them. Wanting to break away from the family business in my teenage years and going away to school to study something as far from construction as I could, little did I know the my studies would later in life merge perfectly with my home knowledge to give me a rare and powerful combination for real estate.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
I was always an avid reader, loving bios and stories about people I admire or wanted to learn more about. Through my pivot to a new career, I was opened up to positive thinking and introspection, and I would say the two books that changed my whole way of thinking and being would be Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill and Becoming Supernatural by Dr Joe Dispenza. I reread and revisit these books all the time to refresh my enthusiasm and keep motivated.
