Inspiring Conversations with Poorvi Mehta of Mikloset

Today we’d like to introduce you to Poorvi Mehta.

Hi Poorvi, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My sister and I are the co-founders of Mikloset (My-Closet), an AI-powered digital closet and social styling platform redefining how people interact with their wardrobes. Our patent-pending technology automatically digitizes a user’s closet (no manual photos, no friction, and no adoption barriers). Inside Mikloset, users receive personalized outfit recommendations, build curated looks through gamification and share their style in a collaborative social space.

The real impact goes beyond convenience. When your closet becomes clear, organized, and actually works for you, your confidence comes back. That’s the shift we’re creating.

Our story begins “From Hand-Me-Downs to High-Tech: The Story Behind Mikloset”.

Every few months, my parents would take us to the basement of a local church. Piled high on folding tables were bags of donated clothes, and we’d spend hours sorting through them, hoping to find something that fit. It wasn’t sad, it was just life. As a kid in a poor immigrant family in northern New Jersey, new clothes weren’t part of the budget. My parents focused on food, housing, and saving every penny they could.

As I grew older, the innocence of those basement “shopping trips” faded. Classmates started noticing the oversized sweaters and mismatched outfits. The teasing/bullying followed, and suddenly what was once a simple necessity became a source of shame.

Years later, in a relationship, that same insecurity crept back in. My partner constantly criticized how I dressed calling me “frumpy” an “embarrassment” or “outdated.” Even on days I felt confident, his words pulled me back into that old self-doubt.

Now, as an adult, getting dressed can still feel loaded. I overthink every outfit, panic before events, and keep buying clothes hoping the next one will finally make me feel “put together and confident.”

That cycle-doubt, confusion, and consumption, became the catalyst for Mikloset. My sister and I realized we weren’t alone. So many people feel overwhelmed by their wardrobes and unsure how to style what they already own. Mikloset was born from that frustration and from the belief that fashion should empower, not intimidate.

Because the truth is, style isn’t about having more, it’s about seeing more in what you have.

Every closet holds stories of identity, resilience, and transformation. Mine started with insecurity. It’s now rooted in empowerment.

What this really means is that true style isn’t about fitting in or dressing for someone else’s approval. It’s about feeling at home in your own skin, comfortable, confident, and free to express who you are through what you wear. Whether it’s a designer dress or a hand-me-down that reminds you where you came from, every piece can tell a story that’s uniquely yours.

And that’s what Mikloset is built to do: help you see yourself, your clothes, and your confidence in a whole new light.

We just launched our private beta and already have a waitlist of more than 1,500 users with zero paid marketing. And this is only the starting point. Mikloset is building a full fashion ecosystem that connects AI styling, social discovery, resale, renting, and creator-driven shopping into one unified experience, a platform designed to become a daily habit, not just another app.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has definitely not been easy. We have faced so many challenges. One step forward with two steps back. Everything has been a closed road.

Most startups get celebrated for the moment they launch. What rarely gets talked about are the lonely months and relentless decisions that shape the product long before anyone ever sees it. Mikloset, the AI-powered digital closet and social fashion platform, is no exception. What looks polished today was built through a maze of challenges that would have stopped most founders in their tracks.

When we, sisters Poorvi Mehta and Mona Khurana, started Mikloset, we weren’t entering familiar territory. Fashion tech was still a young category with no real blueprint, and most of the tools we needed didn’t exist yet. We had to stitch together our vision from scratch, hiring developers and architecting features without the luxury of experienced mentors guiding each step.

Finding the right engineers proved to be one of the hardest battles. Many early hires didn’t understand the complexity of the platform or the speed required to bring it to life. Some code had to be replaced. Some features had to be restarted. And at times, deadlines slipped because the team was still discovering the right way to build what they’d imagined.
It was an exhausting, hands-on process. We ended up creating the sprint structure, QA process, bug tracking system, and product flows herself just to keep development on course.

We continue to push the barriers with a up hill battle, but I am confident we will prevail and bring this platform to everyone.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Mikloset?
Brand + Business Overview

What Mikloset Is
Mikloset is the place where your real closet finally makes sense. It’s an AI powered digital wardrobe and fashion discovery platform that helps people organize what they already own, get outfit ideas they’ll actually wear, and discover new pieces through a community that loves style as much as they do. We built it because we were tired of staring at full closets and still feeling stuck. Most people know that feeling. Mikloset turns that frustration into something simple, creative, and even fun.

What We Do

We help people:

* Digitize their closets without doing any manual
* Get personalized outfit recommendations
* Build and save looks for vacations, events, work, or everyday life
* Share style with friends and follow other users
* Shop items from trusted retailers that fit their actual wardrobe
People describe Mikloset as the “tool they didn’t know they needed.” It becomes part of their day without them even realizing it.

What Makes Us Different
Here’s the thing. Closet apps have existed before, but they’ve always felt clunky or too niche. Nothing felt built for real people with real, messy closets and busy lives.
What sets us apart:
1. We’re removing the tedious steps that turned people off from older closet apps.No more manual uploads. Completely automated with our patent pending technology.
2. We’re building a true style community. Not a feed full of influencers, but a space where everyday people inspire each other.
3. We focus on intentional fashion. Mikloset helps you make the most of what you own before buying more. And when you do shop, it’s from verified retailers and based on real needs, not impulse.
4. We lead with empathy. Our brand is rooted in the belief that style should feel empowering, not stressful or exclusive.

What We’re Most Proud Of
The feedback that hits us the hardest is when people say Mikloset makes them feel confident again. Not because we changed who they are, but because we helped them see what they already have.
We’re also proud that Mikloset was built by two sisters who grew up loving fashion but also recognizing the mental load that surrounds it. We built this company from the ground up, and every part of it reflects real lived experience, not just theory or trends.

What We Want Readers to Know
Mikloset isn’t just a tech product. It’s a shift in how people relate to their clothes and to each other around style. It blends organization, creativity, community, and smarter shopping into one place.
If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by your closet or wished getting dressed was easier, Mikloset was built with you in mind. And this is only the beginning. We’re rolling out new features, new ways to connect, and more ways to help people feel good in what they wear every day.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What Brings Me Happiness With Mikloset:

Mikloset makes me happy in a way that goes way beyond building a product. It’s the feeling of watching an idea that lived in my head for years turn into something that genuinely helps people. When someone tells me they finally feel confident picking an outfit, or that they rediscovered pieces they forgot they owned, it reminds me why I started this in the first place.
What brings me the most joy is seeing people feel lighter. Clothing carries emotion, stress, pressure, self doubt. When Mikloset gives someone clarity instead of chaos, that’s the moment I feel like we’re doing something meaningful.
There’s also a different kind of happiness that comes from building this with my sister. We’ve always balanced each other, but creating a company together brings out a shared purpose I’m deeply grateful for. We built this from nothing. Every line of code, every user message, every late night brainstorm, it all reflects who we are and what we believe in.
And honestly, watching this community grow is its own kind of magic. People aren’t just digitizing closets. they’re exploring their identity, expressing themselves, sharing inspiration, and building confidence one outfit at a time. Knowing that Mikloset can be the place where someone feels seen, creative, or simply more in control of their day, that’s the happiness I hold onto.
Mikloset isn’t just a company for me. It’s joy, purpose, connection, and the chance to create something that outlives the tough days. It’s the rare kind of work that feeds you while you’re building it.
