Hi Payton, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been drawn to the arts for as long as I can remember. Growing up, I spent hours mock-styling celebrities using pieces from their wardrobes. Tumblr came next, where I curated my own website to reflect my vision, and Facebook albums became showcases for my photography. It wasn’t until transferring high schools after my freshman year that I discovered Graphic Design. After taking an Advanced Fine Arts Class, my teacher recommended an introductory course–after that, I was hooked, designing the yearbook and more.
I pursued this passion at the Temerlin Advertising Institute at Southern Methodist University, after being accepted into the Digital Media Strategy Program, a long-term goal of mine. I was drawn to Temerlin for its unique place within the Meadows School of Fine Arts. The blend of business and creativity was unique and spoke to me. I graduated with minors in Graphic Design and Corporate Communications & Public Affairs, equipping me to approach branding with both strategic insight and creative vision.
This foundation led me to Sugarfina, a brand I had long admired. It had always been a dream of mine to work on the brand side for a company I was passionate about. I joined as a Marketing Associate shortly after graduating and, over the past four years, have grown to lead the Creative, Marketing, and E-Commerce departments. At Sugarfina, I’ve applied my creative and strategic skills to packaging design, marketing campaigns, paid advertising, copywriting, and team leadership, bringing cohesive vision and direction to the brand across every touchpoint, from product to digital experience.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I am grateful for the way things have unfolded. While some obstacles present themselves as struggles in the moment, I’ve learned everything works out the way it should in the end.
One of the biggest challenges, and also the most rewarding parts, has been seeing work I’ve helped create come to life, and then feeling the full 360-degree responsibility of making sure it succeeds in the market. It tests your confidence, your decision-making, and your ability to balance creativity with strategy. That pressure has pushed me to grow as a leader and as a thinker, learning not just how to create, but how to ensure the work drives results.
