Inspiring Conversations with Oscar Lopez of Mid Town Protection

Today we’d like to introduce you to Oscar Lopez.

Hi Oscar, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my career in the security industry when I was just 18 years old. At the time, I was going to school while working in security, trying to build a future for myself while gaining real-world experience.

Over the years, I worked my way up through the industry and eventually became a supervisor for several large security companies here in Southern California. Those experiences taught me a lot, not only about security and protecting people and properties, but also about leadership, responsibility, customer service, and what it takes to run successful security operations.

Eventually, I reached a point where I felt there wasn’t much more room for me to grow within the larger companies. I wanted to take the experience I had gained and build something of my own.

One of the CEOs I had worked for recognized my work as a supervisor and believed in me enough to sign off on my required hours, which helped me take the next step toward becoming a licensed security contractor.

In 2024, I decided to take that step and start Mid Town Protection. Starting my own company was a completely different challenge. Instead of working for someone else, I was responsible for finding clients, managing operations, building relationships, handling the business side, and making sure every client received the level of service I promised.

Today, at 36 years old, I’m still building. I’m proud of how far I’ve come, but I also know there’s a lot more ahead. My goal isn’t to become a huge company overnight. I want to continue growing the right way, one client at a time, one relationship at a time, and one opportunity at a time.

For me, Mid Town Protection isn’t just a business. It’s the result of years of hard work, experience, and taking a chance on myself. I’m excited to continue growing the company and see where the journey takes me.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. In the beginning, starting my own company was tough because I was learning many parts of running a business that I had never had to deal with before. I had experience in the security industry, but owning and operating a company was a whole different challenge.

There were times when I had to figure things out on my own, make mistakes, and learn from them. I learned as I went, stayed persistent, and kept improving along the way.

I’m still learning every day, but I believe those early struggles helped me become a better business owner. I’ve learned that growth doesn’t happen overnight, it takes patience, consistency, and being willing to keep moving forward even when things get difficult.

Mid Town Protection is a locally owned and operated security company serving Los Angeles County and surrounding communities. I started the company after spending many years working in the security industry and gaining experience in different positions, eventually working my way into supervision and management.

We provide armed and unarmed security, vehicle patrol, golf cart patrol, patrol checks, fire watch, loss prevention, property protection, and security support for commercial and residential properties. Our goal is to provide dependable, professional security solutions based on each client’s individual needs rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.

What sets Mid Town Protection apart is the personal involvement I have with the business. I’m not just the owner sitting behind a desk. I come from the field, and I understand what it takes to protect a property, communicate with clients, manage officers, and handle situations professionally. I believe that experience helps me understand both the client’s needs and the responsibilities of the officers providing the service.

One of the things I’m most proud of about the Mid Town Protection brand is that we are building it one client at a time. We may be a growing company, but we take every opportunity seriously and treat every client and property with the same level of attention and respect.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I learned the importance of hard work, responsibility, and treating people with respect. From an early age, I understood that nothing is simply handed to you, you have to work for what you want and be willing to keep moving forward when things don’t go as planned.

My experiences growing up also taught me the value of being dependable and looking out for the people around you. Those lessons stayed with me throughout my career and eventually became a big part of the reason I decided to build my own security company.

Starting Mid Town Protection has allowed me to take those values and turn them into something of my own. My goal has always been to provide clients with security they can depend on while building a company based on professionalism, trust, and personal service.
