Inspiring Conversations with Monique Fraile of Momo’z Berriez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monique Fraile.

Hi Monique, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Momo’z Berriez began Mother’s Day of 2020. I made chocolate-covered strawberries for my family and decided to post extras I had for sale. After that, I had people asking if I was going to make more. That gave me the courage to open up a business Instagram account and start my journey. My first year was very successful and I had the opportunity to learn along the way. Following my graduation from UCLA in June of 2021, I decided to take some time off and made the decision to reopen in October of 2022. Since then, I stepped out of my comfort izone to participate in pop-up events, and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made. These events allow me to showcase my work outside of Instagram and to network with so many other small business owners.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Owning a small business will never be a smooth road. There’s times when you don’t have any orders or it is slow but you just have to keep pushing. Especially for pop-up events, customers never get to see all the madness that happens before we are all set up. I have had my canopy fly away and completely break and bend in all places. In addition, I’ve had my table fall and everything falling along with it. Overall, there will always be struggles during this business journey.

Momo’z Berriez is a dessert shop that specializes in custom treats. We offer an array of different desserts from chocolate-covered strawberries all the way to cheesecake shooter cups. We take pride in creating custom treats to your liking and love to be part of special events like proposals and gender reveals. We know that the cost of living right now is very high, so we always aim to keep our prices reasonable so everyone has a chance to order from us. I am most proud of taking pride in having excellent customer service. I am a one-woman team and still aim to reply to all messages and inquiries, usually within the same day. All our desserts are made to order and able to be customized however you’d like. An example of customizations would be colored chocolate, lettering or even hand-drawn images onto your items.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I am a strong believer in the lucky girl syndrome and believe that I am very lucky in my life and my business endeavors. However, I do not rely solely on luck, and do know owning a business requires 110% effort. My luck has brought me so many great opportunities, like winning free vendor spots at events which is a tremendous help.
