Inspiring Conversations with Jennifer Wilson of Bodywise, Inc,

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Wilson

Hi Jennifer, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
As a child, I felt an undeniable connection to music and movement, and I joyously found myself immersed in dance classes. However, at 16, during the intense training of my dance career, I developed a chronic hip injury that threatened my ability to continue. My doctor’s only advice was to quit dancing, but I discovered Pilates, which became the transformative force that healed me. It was the key to my recovery, and I’ve been practicing it ever since.
Growing up, it was clear that I didn’t have the “ideal” dancer’s body—no effortless turnout or high arches. So, in order to “shape” my body into the dancer I aspired to be, I realized I needed to decode the common phrases used in dance training and truly understand how the body was supposed to move. Through this process of learning and deciphering, combined with the magic of Pilates, I was able to turn my body into a functioning instrument of ballet. After high school, I was on a plane to join the Milwaukee Ballet, fulfilling my dream.
Upon returning home from Milwaukee, I danced with local companies and co-founded La Danserie. Pilates remained a cornerstone of my training, and over time, I realized that I wanted to make it my full-time career. In 2000-2001, I completed my Pilates certification through the PhysicalMind Institute under the guidance of Maria Leone.
In 2001, I opened Bodywise, fully committing to Pilates as my career. Immediately, I began applying the same decoding techniques that had allowed me to succeed in dance to help my clients. It became my mission not only to teach them how we move, but also to explain why the body moves the way it does—understanding the root causes of movement patterns was key to helping heal chronic pain and other physical issues.
As an empath, I could often feel my clients’ struggles, and at times, their pain would stay with me, which was not ideal. This sensitivity led me to explore energy work, and I eventually became a Master Reiki Practitioner under the mentorship of Alberto A. Amura. While I still cherished teaching Pilates, I found that energy work could offer deeper solutions, particularly for clients dealing with chronic issues or post-injury patterning. Through my training with Alberto, I was introduced to the use of tuning forks for centering oneself and meditation, and I instantly integrated this into my practice.
My understanding of the power of sound and vibration deepened further when I encountered the work of Barbara Hero, founder of the International Lambda Research Institute. Her research demonstrated how sound waves can be used to calculate the natural frequencies of healthy tissues and organs. This was a confirmation of my intuition—sound and vibration, when applied correctly, can help the body realign and restore balance. It was clear that sound could help entrain the body back to its natural state of wellness.
In 2005, after retiring from my ballet career, I turned to cycling, a passion I’d always had. That soon evolved into racing with local teams, and by 2008, I signed a Pro Continental contract with Vanderkitten Racing. During my time as a competitive cyclist, I worked with Don Lee, LAc, DNBAO, CSCS, to recover from injuries sustained in crashes. His approach to movement and injury recovery—his unique technique called Orthopedic Acupuncture—was incredibly effective. When I learned of Don’s imminent retirement in 2016, I trained directly with him to learn his techniques. These techniques, which do not involve needles, are now something I call Ortho Kinetic Alignment, a name that I believe more accurately represents the profound work we do.
Today, I integrate all of these modalities—Pilates, Reiki, vibrational healing, and Ortho Kinetic Alignment—into my work with clients, addressing their unique needs and helping them achieve balance, wellness, and proper movement function. My life is dedicated to following my intuition and continuing to refine my craft, always seeking new ways to support my clients’ health and well-being in every area of their lives.
In addition to the physical work, I also offer Sound Baths and Meditation, using the power of sound to bring the soul and spirit into harmony with the body. This holistic approach helps create a deeper sense of balance and alignment, fostering overall wellness and an empowered way of living. Through my work, I strive to help clients experience the ultimate harmony between body, mind, and spirit.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Overall, the journey has been relatively smooth. I’ll admit, in 2001 it felt a bit like jumping off a cliff, but it all worked out in the end. While I’ve faced the typical business challenges, including shifts in the economy, I feel incredibly blessed to have a thriving business and to stay consistently busy.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Bodywise, Inc,?
I am known for my ability to help people heal, often making significant improvements in pain or discomfort during the very first session. Over time, I work with clients to completely resolve their pain, allowing them to return to the activities they love. Beyond pain relief, I also specialize in enhancing athletic performance, helping athletes maintain an injury-free, well-balanced body.

What sets me apart is my unique background and innate intuition. Coming from a dance background, where proper body mechanics are essential, and then transitioning into competitive aerobic sports, I have a deep understanding of all forms of movement. This foundation, combined with my intuitive energy work and knowledge of fascia and movement patterning, creates a distinctive approach to healing and performance optimization.

To meet the individual needs of each client, I offer a variety of services. My one-on-one private sessions incorporate a range of modalities based on what the client requires, including *Ortho Kinetic Alignment*, sound vibration healing, Reiki, meditation, spiritual counseling, and Pilates. The more Pilates based with some sound vibration work can also be done via Zoom.

I also offer full-body tuning fork sessions, focusing not only on aligning the body’s energy fields but also on tuning the glands and organs to their optimal frequency. These sessions guide the body back to its natural, healthy state of vibration. I also extend this work to animals, who are incredibly receptive to energy and vibration, often responding very well to the treatments. Or if you are looking for more of a meditative journey there are private sound bath meditations available as well.

For clients seeking more flexibility, I offer virtual one-on-one coaching. With this option, you can take me with you wherever you work out. I provide aerobic coaching, guiding you through your workouts while tracking your performance through a smartwatch if you have one. Additionally, I offer personalized workout plans, whether you’re lifting weights or practicing Pilates, ensuring they align with your routine and goals. You’ll have ongoing contact with me, almost as if I’m right there with you during each session.

Finally, I offer an On-Demand platform, which I continually update with new content. This platform features instructional videos on how to perform exercises correctly—helping you avoid common mistakes that often lead to injury. Many people hurt themselves during exercise simply because they haven’t been taught the basics of movement. The platform also includes Pilates mat classes for all levels and sound meditations to enhance your overall well-being.

For those seeking in-person energy healing or sound bath experiences, I’m available for home visits, offering sound vibration healing, meditations, and sound baths tailored to individual needs.

Whether you’re looking to alleviate pain, optimize your athletic performance, or find greater balance and healing, my diverse range of services is designed to help you achieve your goals and live your best life.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I am also a licensed USA Cycling Coach, combining my extensive experience as a competitive cyclist—both on the road and track—with the insights I gained from being coached by some of the best in the industry, including Roy Knickman and Roger Young. I offer a range of coaching packages tailored to recreational riders, racers, and professionals alike. Whether you’re looking to improve your skills, boost your fitness, or refine your strategy, I provide personalized coaching to help you reach your cycling goals. Additionally, if you’re looking for specific tips or guidance, I’m available for on-the-road coaching sessions by the hour, focused on improving your riding technique and fitness.
