Inspiring Conversations with Javier Munoz of Frogtowns Gourmet Tacos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Javier Munoz.

Javier, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
We started as a pop up in our front yard. It started more as a hobby. I was working as a CNA but because of religious observance of the Sabbath Day I didn’t have a regular 4-2 schedule but was off every Saturday and Wednesday. So I thought I have to cook for the family so why not invite the community. So we started selling tacos on Wednesday evenings. It was really fun. We were shocked people were actually coming. Then a month or so later we got mentioned on an app called 5 everyday and that helped spark the frenzy. We had huge lines out our front yard. Within the same time Frogtown Brewery was starting up so we got invited to go pop up there. At first we were a bit skeptical as we didn’t know ow much about the industry and we didn’t plan on any of this. So one day we made the leap of faith and accepted the invitation. We did that until the pandemic hit and safety laws thiten up so we decided to jump on a food truck. We are working on operating the truck full time and opening a second truck. We also aspire to open a sit down restaurant where we can really introduce mom’s delicious home cooked recipes. I dont think we wre ready for that delicacy just yet but hopefully soon.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all. Building our brand has come with many bumps and mistakes. I’ve had to book events where we lost money. But we are happy to learn and grow.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We are a gourmet tacos truck . We specialize in our seafood tacos but the secret is the soft moist handpressed tortill were you really can’t find anywhere else. The secret is all in the tempetures in how you cook things. Master technique

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memorie is walking the dirt roads of El Terrero, Namiquipa, Chihuahua. Ha ds down.
