Hi Gil, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
As two serial entrepreneurs with a love for how business enables us to improve and provide for a community, my business partner Edward Oueilhe and I came to own Wise Pest Control together by expanding our professional services and real estate firm, Scout. Starting out with a big risk by putting our savings and loans into setting up Scout, we ultimately grew the business even after facing shutdowns during the pandemic. By offering our community in Los Angeles a customer experience that combines cutting-edge expertise with a personal, local business approach, we kept growing. Wise Pest Control came to be after we reached a tipping point of success with Scout that allowed us to expand what we could offer to our community even further.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Before we started Wise Pest Control, we started Scout, the company that would make it possible for us to branch out with Wise. Everything was going as planned until it didn’t: the pandemic hit and businesses were forced to close, including new businesses like ours that were in the most crucial stage of growth. By forgoing our salaries and tirelessly finding ways to reduce expenses and offer more services, Scout not only survived these shutdowns, but was able to thrive.

Just a few years later, we saw a need in Los Angeles for pest control that offered both safe and skilled services. While we were hesitant to take the risk of starting Wise Pest Control after only a few years of stability, a family tragedy gave me a change of heart. Having recently faced the sudden death of my uncle, who passed away shortly after his retirement and before getting to enjoy the plans he’d made, I was motivated not to waste a moment of life. If we saw an opportunity and the time was right, we would make our move, with how limited and fleeting time is in our minds. That’s exactly what we did in starting Wise Pest Control and it turned out to be the right move.

Wise Pest Control sets itself apart by offering a unique blend of exceptional customer service and top-tier expertise—skills we’ve honed through years of experience working with a high-level professional clientele at Scout. We discovered through personal experience that the pest control industry was severely wanting for both expert and customer-centered services. It’s one thing to simply get the job done, but most people want their money to provide them with more than just the basics: they want peace of mind that a company knows how to properly handle poisonous chemicals and is tailoring its approach to their individual needs.

Our focus is on understanding and anticipating our customer’s needs, especially in a business where the proper handling of chemicals requires precision and expertise. When it comes to pest control, this isn’t just a matter of convenience—it’s a necessity. When people are in a pinch, they need a reliable and safe option they can trust, and that’s exactly what Wise Pest Control provides.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I owe so much of my success to the values my mother and father instilled in me from a young age. They taught me the importance of hard work, striving for excellence, and never giving up, no matter how tough things get. Watching them persevere through their own challenges and always give their best inspired me to carry those same principles into my business. Their guidance has been the foundation upon which I’ve built this company, and I’m deeply grateful for the lessons they passed on to me. Without their influence, I wouldn’t be where I am today, leading Wise Pest Control to success with the same dedication and integrity they lived by.
