Inspiring Conversations with Ellie Liu of BONDIR

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ellie Liu.

Hi Ellie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
BONDIR was founded in late 2021, inspired by the founder – Ellie’s first Italian Greyhound Bella turning one—and the lack of truly refined options made for the breed’s delicate frame. She began with small DIY runs at her mother’s factory, shaping early prototypes with a couturier’s attention to fit and finish.

With the global pet fashion market accelerating, she moved quickly—leveraging her mother’s atelier-level production expertise, honed over 30 years in women’s apparel, alongside her own start-up and branding experience, to translate her design vision into a distinctive wardrobe for four-legged companions.

That first coat became the beginning of BONDIR: quietly exacting, thoughtfully niche, and steadily expanding into a curated product universe.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The early days were actually quite smooth. I entered the pet industry largely on instinct, without extensive market research or much preparation. Looking back, I was fortunate with the timing, the business grew quickly in the first two years, and we were able to expand quite naturally.

As the brand matured, sustaining that growth became more challenging. Expanding the business required more deliberate planning, and building visibility on social media became increasingly difficult. Each year has brought new obstacles, but we’ve continued to work through them one by one. It’s been a constant learning process, teaching us to adapt and be more thoughtful about how we grow.

We’ve been impressed with BONDIR, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We’re a dog fashion house specialising in luxury clothing and accessories, known for our distinctive designs and attention to quality. What sets us apart is that we approach dog clothing with the same care and creativity as human fashion.

Our design process is incredibly detailed, from developing each silhouette and selecting fabrics to refining the fit and finishing. We translate fashion ideas into pieces that work for a dog’s proportions and movement. That approach allows us to create something distinctive while maintaining high standards of craftsmanship and production.
