Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Salman.
Hi Diana, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Diana Salman, and I’m a first-generation American born and raised in Los Angeles. In 2023, at just 27 years old, I took a leap of faith and purchased The Plost Office, a neighborhood mailbox and business services center that has been part of Valley Village since 1985. While the business had a long-standing legacy, it was struggling when I took over, and I saw both the challenge and the opportunity to bring it back to life.
Taking ownership meant honoring what came before while completely reimagining what the business could be. Over the last three years, I’ve significantly expanded our services to better serve the community, including private mailbox rentals, notary public services, live scan fingerprinting for the DOJ and FBI, and most recently, DMV registration services after becoming a certified DMV Business Partner. Today, The Plost Office is a true one-stop shop for essential small business solutions, and a place where people know they’ll be helped with care and integrity.
My journey hasn’t been easy. My parents lost everything during the 2008 financial crash and have struggled ever since, so I started with no financial safety net. Growing up with two immigrant parents in Los Angeles made navigating life and business especially challenging, but it also shaped my resilience, work ethic, and determination. Living in LA isn’t easy, and building something from the ground up here takes grit — but I wouldn’t trade my experience for anything.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies from Cal State Northridge, which has helped me connect with people and advocate for my business and community. I’m proud to have been elected as a Business Representative for the Valley Village Neighborhood Council, where I work to support and uplift local businesses and residents.
I’m also a proud woman business owner. What I’ve built is proof of what women in business can accomplish with persistence and vision. I invested my wedding gift cash into buying this business, and alongside my wonderful husband of three years, I’m working relentlessly to create long-term success and stability. At 29 years old, I’m still early in my journey, but I’m deeply committed to preserving the legacy of The Plost Office while continuing to grow, innovate, and serve my community.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. Taking over a small, struggling business at 27 years old came with steep learning curves and constant pressure. I stepped into ownership without generational wealth, financial backing, or a safety net, and every decision carried real risk. Investing my wedding money into a business that was already declining meant failure was never an option — I had to make it work.
As a young woman and first-generation American in a traditionally male-dominated space, I often had to work twice as hard to be taken seriously by vendors, institutions, and even customers. There were moments of self-doubt, long days, and sleepless nights, especially while adding new services, navigating regulations, and managing the financial realities of running a brick-and-mortar business in Los Angeles.
Balancing growth with responsibility was another major challenge. Expanding services like Live Scan, notary, and DMV registration required extensive training, certifications, compliance, and upfront costs — all while keeping daily operations running smoothly. On top of that, learning how to be a leader, employer, and community advocate at the same time was something I had to grow into quickly.
Despite the challenges, every struggle strengthened my confidence and sharpened my vision. The obstacles forced me to become resourceful, resilient, and deeply connected to my community. Looking back, the difficult moments were necessary — they shaped not just the business I run today, but the person and leader I’ve become.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The Plost Office is a women-owned, community-centered business services hub that has been serving Valley Village since 1985. When I took over, my goal was to preserve the legacy of the business while modernizing it to meet today’s needs. What sets us apart is that we’re not just a mailbox store — we’re a trusted, one-stop resource for essential services that people often find stressful or confusing.
We specialize in private mailbox services, notary public services, live scan fingerprinting for both the DOJ and FBI, printing, key copies, and DMV registration services as a certified DMV Business Partner. Our clients range from local residents and families to small business owners, professionals, and creatives who rely on us for secure, efficient, and reliable support. We’re known for making complicated processes feel simple and approachable.
What truly differentiates The Plost Office is the level of care and personal attention we provide. Many of our customers have been coming here for years, and new clients often tell us they feel immediately welcomed and supported. We take the time to explain processes, answer questions, and make sure people leave feeling confident — not rushed or overwhelmed. In an age of automation and impersonal service, that human connection is something we deeply value.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of transforming what was once a declining business into a modern, thriving, women-owned operation that reflects resilience, trust, and community. Every service we’ve added was intentional — designed to solve real problems for our neighborhood and save people time, stress, and extra trips across the city.
I want readers to know that The Plost Office is built on integrity, accessibility, and service. We’re a place where people can come for help, guidance, and reliable solutions — and where supporting a small, women-owned business directly supports the local community. For me, success isn’t just measured by growth, but by the relationships we build and the role we play in making everyday life a little easier for the people we serve.
What’s next?
Looking ahead, my focus is on continued growth and stability — both professionally and personally. I plan to keep expanding and strengthening The Plost Office by adding services that genuinely support our community and small businesses, while maintaining the high level of care and trust we’re known for. Long-term, I want to ensure the business remains a thriving, women-owned institution in Valley Village for years to come.
On a personal level, my husband and I are working toward buying a home in the Valley and putting down deeper roots in the community we already serve. Building a family is also a big part of my future vision. I’m excited about creating a life where entrepreneurship, community involvement, and family can grow together.
What I look forward to most is building something sustainable — a business that provides opportunity, stability, and service — while also creating a fulfilling life outside of work. For me, success means growth with balance, purpose, and the ability to give back to the neighborhood that has supported me along the way.
