Inspiring Conversations with Dean Ben-Zour of Mighty Apes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dean Ben-Zour.

Dean, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Coming from a working-class families, both my partner and I began our journey by trying to help our parents with their small businesses. While we each started working in the field separately, we decided to join hands quickly, as we noticed that there is a huge potential in this field. At the time (about 11 years ago), online marketing was a giant beast that most business owners didn’t know how to tackle. Soon enough we realized that business owners are too afraid to utilize online marketing as they are unfamiliar with the field, and other marketers tend to intimidate them with big words. We wanted to provide a simple service that is specific enough to ensure the business owner understands the process, yet generic enough so that it could help ANY small business.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The road was definitely not smooth. When we entered the world of online marketing we were super ambitious and quickly enough we found out that the gap between a small business owner and a marketing specialist’s knowledge was something that many specialists took advantage of. This made the business owners very wary, and unaccepting for ‘new ideas’. However, since we were sure that our product can help and benefit any business owner, we decided to focus on how to make it, and ourselves, trustworthy enough to leave a better taste for our clients.

We’ve been impressed with Mighty Apes, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Mighty Apes Marketing is an online marketing agency, specializing in paid ads for lead generation purposes. This means we solely focus on generating new sales for small businesses. My partner Eli and I have created software that helps us create the perfect ads to any business by lowering your lead costs and increasing the qualified traffic that sees our ads. We are considered top Google Partner, Yelp Premier Partners and Facebook (Meta) Partners. We have routine meetings with high execs in these corporation, as we’ve been working with them for years and they value our opinion and implement our suggestions into their platforms. In other words, we have a say in the future of paid online marketing, and we use it to ensure small businesses can gain as much as big firms, without having to spend all of their savings.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
When I was 13 my dad took me to Staples Center to see Kobe Bryant and the Lakers for the first time. I remember coming really early, like 2 hours before the game started and I was shocked to see Kobe is working out fiercely. I remember thinking to myself ‘How can he work so hard knowing he has to give 100% as soon as the game starts? How is he not tired?’. It was such an amazing experience, that taught me that in order to achieve greatness, you have to be the hardest worker, and never stop because this is how you differentiate yourself from your competition.
