Inspiring Conversations with David Moon of MRG MMA

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Moon.

Hi David, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been practicing martial arts for as long as I can remember. With my parents owning and teaching full-time at a martial arts school, I essentially grew up on the mats and was immersed in that environment my entire life.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I never imagined I would continue my family’s martial arts legacy. Growing up, my dream was to play on the PGA Tour, and I dedicated most of my time outside of school and martial arts to practicing and competing in golf.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
MRG MMA is a Traditional and Mixed Martial Arts Academy based in Los Angeles, CA. My father founded the school in Busan, South Korea in 1968, and I took over in 2019. What makes us unique is that we teach both traditional martial arts and MMA under one roof.

I’m most proud of our community—we’ve built a culture where everyone is dedicated to improving and helping each other grow. We offer classes for all ages and skill levels in Moorimdo (Traditional), MMA, Muay Thai, Cardio Kickboxing, and Jiu Jitsu.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was always focused on personal growth. My parents encouraged me to prioritize golf, martial arts, and academics—in that order. While I’ve always been social and loved being around people, I didn’t get to spend as much time socializing and having fun as I would have liked.
