Inspiring Conversations with Daniel Saldaña of Saldana Fitness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Saldaña

Hi Daniel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I launched Saldana Fitness back in 2016, but my journey started long before that. Prior to Saldana Fitness, I was working as an Environmental Engineer. My career was fulfilling in many ways, but something was missing—I felt a strong pull towards helping others on a more personal level.

In 2014, my life changed dramatically with the tragic passing of my son. It was an incredibly difficult time, but it also brought a moment of clarity. I realized that life is too short not to follow your true calling. Fitness had always been a passion of mine, and I knew I could use it as a tool to help others improve their lives, both physically and mentally.

So, in 2016, I made the leap and launched Saldana Fitness. Starting my own business as a solopreneur was challenging, but the rewards have been immeasurable. Every day, I have the privilege of working with amazing clients, helping them achieve their fitness goals, and witnessing their transformations. It’s incredibly fulfilling to know that I can make a positive impact on their lives.

The journey from Environmental Engineer to fitness professional was not linear, but it was driven by a deep desire to help others. Today, Saldana Fitness stands as a testament to the power of following your passion and turning personal tragedy into a force for good. My story is a reminder that no matter what life throws at you, there’s always a way to find purpose and make a difference.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like any business, the journey of Saldana Fitness has had its share of struggles. Pre-pandemic, I was training clients from a private studio in Pasadena, enjoying the personal connection and the energy that comes from in-person sessions. However, when the pandemic hit, everything changed overnight.

I quickly realized I needed to pivot and come up with a plan B to keep my business going and continue supporting my clients. I converted my homespace into a gym, ensuring I could still offer high-quality, personalized training. Additionally, I started offering remote coaching services, adapting my approach to fit the new normal.

Transitioning to remote coaching was challenging at first. I had to learn new technologies, adjust my training methods, and find ways to keep my clients engaged and motivated from a distance. There were moments of uncertainty and doubt, but those challenges pushed me to innovate and grow.

Despite the difficulties, these struggles have made Saldana Fitness stronger. They’ve taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of staying connected with my clients, no matter the circumstances. Today, I’m proud to offer both in-person and remote coaching, providing flexibility and support to clients near and far.

The road hasn’t always been smooth, but every bump along the way has been a valuable lesson. These experiences have shaped Saldana Fitness into what it is today—a dynamic and resilient fitness community dedicated to helping people achieve their goals, no matter what life throws at them.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
At Saldana Fitness, I view risk-taking as an essential part of growth and innovation. Taking risks isn’t about being reckless; it’s about making bold decisions that align with your passion and purpose, even when the path ahead is uncertain.

One of the major risks I took was leaving my established career as an Environmental Scientist to start Saldana Fitness in 2016. This was a significant shift, driven by a deep desire to follow my true calling and make a real difference in people’s lives through fitness. Leaving the security of a steady job to venture into entrepreneurship was daunting, but it was a risk worth taking. This decision allowed me to build a business that reflects my passion and has been incredibly rewarding.

Another significant risk came during the pandemic. When lockdowns forced the closure of my private studio in Pasadena, I had to pivot quickly. I transformed my homespace into a gym and launched remote coaching services to continue supporting my clients. This transition was risky because it required rapid adaptation to new technology and a different way of delivering my services. However, it also opened up new opportunities and allowed me to reach clients far beyond my local area.

Taking these risks has taught me the importance of resilience and adaptability. It’s about trusting your vision, being willing to step out of your comfort zone, and embracing the challenges that come your way. I believe that the biggest rewards come from the biggest risks, and every challenge is an opportunity to grow and improve.

At Saldana Fitness, we don’t just help clients achieve their fitness goals—we empower them to take control of their lives and embrace their own potential. Taking risks is a part of that journey, and I’m proud to lead by example. Whether it’s transforming my career or adapting to unprecedented times, I’ve learned that taking risks can lead to incredible outcomes and make a lasting impact.
