Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Choi.
Daniel, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born and raised in Southern California with a deep-rooted passion for sports. Growing up, I played baseball, but an injury unexpectedly brought my playing days to an end. While difficult at the time, this setback became the driving force behind my desire to help other athletes stay in the game and pursue their passions without being limited by injury. To pursue this dream, I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Allied Health and later a Doctorate of Physical Therapy, both from Azusa Pacific University.
To further develop my clinical skills, I completed the Orthopedic Residency and Sports Rehabilitation Fellowship at Kaiser Permanente in Orange County, where I had the privilege of working alongside sports physical therapists, orthopedic surgeons and sports medicine doctors treating athletes of all ages.
Since then, I have worked with local soccer teams like United City FC, volunteered at events like Lei-Out Ultimate Frisbee, and served as the Team Physical Therapist at Santa Ana College and for United City FC. I also had the opportunity to support the Australian Mixed National Team—the Cassowaries—at the World Masters Ultimate Championships 2024 in Irvine, CA. In 2025, I served as a gym intern for Wasserman Basketball where I assisted the lead physical therapist with rehab and strength & conditioning for high-level basketball players during the off-season.
Beyond clinical work, I am passionate about education and have served as an adjunct professor at Azusa Pacific University and guest lectured at Yonsei University in Korea on biomechanics and injury prevention for pitchers. I have also led workshops for athletes to share current research, raise awareness, and provide practical strategies to reduce injury risk and support long-term athletic health.
My mission is to help active individuals live life without limitations and to be a resource in my community by promoting injury risk mitigation and patient education.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has definitely not been smooth, and my journey continues to come with its fair share of challenges. There have been moments where I have questioned whether I am doing enough or felt inadequate when comparing myself to others who seem to be living the “dream job” as sports physical therapists, working with high-level athletes or landing prestigious roles. I have faced rejections, had to pivot from original plans, and adjusted.
But through it all, one of the biggest lessons I have learned is to trust the process and embrace where I am right now. It is easy to get caught up in wanting immediate results—whether it is building a full schedule of patients, helping someone recover faster, or working with high level athletes. Yet I have come to realize that everything has its time and place. Growth does not always happen overnight, and it is the small, consistent steps that lay the foundation for long-term success. I have learned to value those little wins and stay prepared for the doors that will open down the road.
