Hi Chellsea, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?

Hi! I’m Chellsea, the designer and owner of NAMI by CL Studio. I was born and raised in the Philippines and moved to the United States nearly six years ago, right after graduating from college back home. I just turned 21 that time. I came here with just $200 in my pocket, and it took a lot of courage and hard work to get where I am today. I can confidently say that I have earned every inch of what I have achieved.

I’ve always loved the art of fashion and everything surrounding it. The idea of dressing up and how it makes you feel has always inspired me, and I knew I wanted to do something related to fashion. I started my journey as a fashion stylist in Dallas, Texas, where I met many creative people who taught me and helped me grow as an artist.

I eventually decided that I wanted to expand my horizons and learn more, so I moved to Los Angeles, which I felt was the perfect place for me. While living here, I constantly had the idea of starting my own brand in the back of my mind, but I wanted everything I did to have a purpose. With my passion for fashion and my business education from college, I decided to create a brand with a purpose.

My upbringing in the Philippines played a significant role in this decision. As a tropical country in Southeast Asia, we experience climate change firsthand. This inspired me to create a sustainable brand that helps the environment. Now, we can save the earth with style.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I believe that there’s always a struggle on the path to greatness. First and foremost, there are internal struggles like self-doubt and procrastination. As a creative, I know that many of us grapple with these issues, but ultimately, it’s mind over matter. It’s your purpose that keeps you going. Sometimes, you just have to get up in the morning and do what needs to be done.

On the technical side, I’ve had to work a 9-5 job to support my expenses while building NAMI by CL. Balancing my day job with my work on the brand has been a learning process. This kind of hardship has taught me how to manage money, which is one of the most important aspects of running a business.
