Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Rose
Hi Adam, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Soccer Routes started officially in 2014 in a park in Valley Village. But its true origin dates back a few years before that when owner Adam Rose first moved to America from England. Upon arrival, Rose had taken a job as a soccer coach with another company but was shocked by the way these companies trained young athletes. “Young players deserve to be respected and taken seriously in their efforts, not treated like babies or coached by parents.” The need for professional coaches was clear. Rose took his expertise in soccer, having played to a high level in England and his degree in psychology and set to work creating his own system of development to take players from age 2-12 with a proper curriculum to mold them into the athletes and more importantly the humans that they would go on to be.
Starting off with just one bag of balls, one set of goals and one assistant coach- Coach Adam taught every class himself and honed his process while building up community amongst families and players. “Trust the process” became his official tag line, reminding parents that development doesn’t just happen overnight. A few years later, his staff had grown to 12 coaches and 4 fields and it was time to look for a bigger location. Now located in the heart of Studio City at our own private location, Soccer Routes proudly serves hundreds of families with a team of over 25 coaches each weekend!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Scaling a business is never a smooth road. Soccer Routes path to scaling was always a David and Goliath type battle. The hardest part in the beginning of building any business is convincing the client of your worth and value. Going up against huge massive C corporations and well known non-profit orgainzations is a massive challenge, despite the clear difference in the quality of our product by comparison. Then there is the obviously operational challenges that come along with running a business, securing permits, insurance, all the little things that no one tells you about when you are young and excited. Those details are what truly make the difference when you are scaling, a strong foundation built properly will sustain you.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are proud to be the modernization of youth soccer coaching. Our professional approach to youth development sets us apart, as we do not believe that kids should be trained by volunteer parent coaches and should be treated with the respect and safe environment that they deserve. We believe in learning over winning. We believe in protecting and reinforcing growth mindset in kids. Our mission is to coach kids in soccer and life to help them be the best athletes and humans they can be.
Our Story
Soccer Routes was founded by CEO and Master Coach Adam Rose in Los Angeles in 2014. Coach Adam has a background in Psychology and Sociology from Loughborough University in England. He played at the competitive level in England for most of his formative years before making his way to the US.
After a moving from England to America, Rose noticed a distinct lack of serious, quality soccer training for young aspiring athletes. There was no vision, no plan and no development for body or mind. Everything out there treated young athletes like babies, singing songs and playing silly games. With training and certification as a US National coach, Rose has merged his background in psychology with over 18 years of coaching experience on 3 continents to create the Soccer Routes signature “4 Pillars Development System™” to train up young players ages 2 through 12 years to be serious competitors in both sport and life. Though often imitated, Soccer Routes is the only place to find his trademarked method.
Soccer Routes was created to act as the pre and elementary school developmental years within soccer, so that young players could seamlessly transition to club soccer at the end of our program.
“Rec leagues and mass franchised activity ‘soccer’ programs just don’t educate to a high enough level for players to be anywhere near prepared technically, tactically and mentally to help players reach their full potential in all of their future endeavors both on and off the field.” -Rose
Our focus is on providing a developmentally appropriate environment for young players to learn the game of soccer. This means that we focus on teaching the technical, mental, and tactical aspects of the game in a way that is appropriate for young players.
One key aspect of Soccer Routes philosophy is that we prioritize learning over winning. We believe that it is more important for players to learn how to play the game correctly and to develop a love for the sport, rather than to focus on the score of each game.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
“Boring consistency wins over following trends any day of the week. Stay true to yourself and your brand. Don’t spend too much time overthinking, go and do. Start the thing and keep going, refine the details in the process. You will make mistakes and thats ok as long as you just keep going. Listen to your clients, but don’t let them run your business. Make quick decisions and move forward.”
