Inspiring Conversations with Nate Calima of FORMOR International

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nate Calima.

Hi Nate, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born in Los Angeles and I love LA County! I live locally in Los Angeles, soon also Las Vegas, and in the Philippines. Most of my family followed the traditional ethos of getting a good education in order to get a good job. I started my first college course at the age of 13 and I was excited. But I sat next to a person that was much more mature than me and he said something that would change my life forever “Welcome to the rest of your life” in the most depressing tone.

Eventually, I met someone with a sports car and I was always in the habit of asking questions. I asked what they did and if they went to school. They said they were an entrepreneur and didn’t finish school and that would send me on a path toward business. I would scour the internet and bookstores on entrepreneurship and eventually got into personal development. Someone gave me an audio of Jim Rohn and learning personal and financial development changed my life forever. Quotes like “You are the sum average of the five people you closely associate yourself with” and “Some people you are spending 5 minutes with you should spend five days with, and some people you spend five days with you really should spend 5 minutes with”. One that hit me hard was “Discipline weighs ounces while regret weights tons”.

That introduced me to nutritional direct sales and eventually landed me as Vice President of Sales with FORMOR International. I wouldn’t have the same opportunities if I wasn’t in Los Angeles. There is a magic here and the networking is almost unmatched. You can meet anyone here locally and your business can grow globally. The ability to network has been key in building connections around the world. I would advise people here to first network like crazy and meet people and then move around the nation if they wish. I got a lot of inspiration from watching Grant Cardone on the Discovery show “Undercover Billionaire”. They drop people who’ve produced billions with networking skills somewhere in the nation and give them just $100 and they created million dollar companies in 90 days just through networking. You have a goldmine of networking here in LA!

Thanks to personal development, turning my health around, and financial development the whole world opened up. Your philosophy is the key and gathering the skills and getting over the fear of rejection will change your life. You simply need a mentor to help guide you.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not, growing up I had a severe skin disorder and didn’t have many friends growing up in the border of Long Beach / Compton, CA. It was tough but the silver lining is that my lack of social skills would make me obsessed about computers and the internet. I believed it was the future. Eventually, I got into nutrition and my skin disorder went away, even after going from doctor to doctor all my life. I wanted to be an entrepreneur and I thought maybe the internet was the way. However, getting into nutrition and having a healed body gave me the confidence to start networking in person so I was able to capitalize on both. I became passionate about good nutrition and that passion translated into customers because I myself was a product of the product. I stumbled with the fear of rejection and fear of public speaking but I did it over and over again until I was able to articulate my feelings and build a following.

Most people from my childhood can’t believe the transformation. I attempted to associate with positive and forward-thinking mentors and became a storyteller. It helped me later in entertainment as I had fun being a host and voiceover for big events in LA which led to TV spots and meeting like-minded people. It seems like all the hardships were put in front of me in order to become the person I am today. I have been a contributor in a book and also writing and publishing a book that will be released later this year.

With the networking skills I learned, I was able to meet so many incredible people in Los Angeles, I’ve lived in other places in the world and nothing quite compares to LA in the variety. For example, I look up to Tilman Fertitta, the multi-billionaire who owns Landrys, The Golden Nugget, and the Houston Rockets because he started in nutrition as well and turned that into an empire. Thanks to a set of circumstances, I ended up meeting one of his business partners who own Catch LA in West Hollywood at his condo and got to learn about life. From struggle and being made fun of because of a health condition to learning from people you watch on TV or read about in magazines. That’s the magic of networking in LA!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
FORMOR International is a nutritional company in where I am the Vice President of Sales. In Los Angeles, I use the direct sales portion to spread the gift of personal development and financial development and also educate the community on high-quality nutrition through science and storytelling. We will also be moving into functional beverages such as enriched coffee with supplements in them. What we are most proud of is our flagship product Cardio Cocktail which is helping the fight against the #1 killer in America: Cardiovascular Disease. Los Angeles has been on the forefront of health and wellness and the trends typically start here.

As we grow, we look forward to give back and also sponsor organizations and individuals that are promoting good causes. We have a Build Local, Think Global approach. I am passionate about high-quality nutrition that works because it gave me the life I have today. If I still had my skin disorders, I never would of broken into showbiz and never had all the opportunities I have today. It is our mission to leave people better than when we first met them. Help people be healthy and help them create an extra cashflow by promoting our products so they can live the life that they always wanted.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was outgoing until my skin disorder became unmanageable. It became so bad that I would literally have skin falling off and bleeding. It was like a permanent sunburn that never went away. I became a recluse and when I got a computer that was my refuge. That outgoing personality started to come out again once I learned about good nutrition which is why I am so passionate about educating the community on good nutrition, diet and exercise and providing people with solid products. Once I fixed my own health, I could live my life to the fullest once again. How many in LA and the rest of the world feel miserable because of health issues that might be fixed with solid nutrition? The health revolution affects our mental health, personality and interests. It is my mission to spread awareness and affordable nutrition.
