Today we’d like to introduce you to Emma Goodman.
Hi Emma, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started Skincare when I was 20 (20 yes ago!) when I struggled with digestion issues. At the time, I was loaded up on medications and had surgery to try and “fix” my symptoms. Without any relief, I was lead to a Holistic Dr’s office where I started to work on deeper emotional and health protocols that looked at the cause of the issue rather than masking it with a drug. I was fascinated by the body’s ability to heal given the right tools. That’s where my journey began! As an esthetician, I started incorporating what I was learning into my practice and teaching my clients that it was much more to the skin than what was on the surface. I worked in many places from a doctor’s office to a spa, then to a community of healers in Los Angeles and have recently started my own studio Skin Witch La which has made me so proud!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Healing is never easy. There is no quick fix, easy path, or bio hack for it. I’ve learned so much on the journey, nothing I would ever take back. My husband died in 2012 in a motorcycle accident, four weeks after we found we were pregnant. We were newly in love, just married, and had plans for our future. The road was hard at that time, walking the line between life and death. I had to be fully present in my body but I only wanted to numb the feeling of my heartache. I had a little Angel depending on me. It was hard, however, I had an amazing support system around me that got me through it. Life is short and precious, enjoy these moments while you can. These are “the good ole days”.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I’ve been a Holistic Esthetician for 20 years and work with some of Hollywood’s top celebrities. I’m known as Hailey Beiber’s estie as well as many top actors and models. I infuse my knowledge of Chinese medicine, face mapping and reflexology, nutrition, chakra balancing, reiki, and cranial sacral therapy to keep my client’s skin glowing from the inside out. My philosophy is that the skin is a reflection of the state of the gut/ microbiome, lifestyle, stress, emotions, and toxic overload including medications, food, hormones, and environmental triggers. I believe that a clean lifestyle and detoxification are the keys to skin transformation.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
I say be true to who you are. When you first become an esthetician you are trained to pass a test, the state board exam but that gives you the basics. Read books, take classes, intern, work as an assistant for an Esthetician or at a spa or medical office to get the feel for what resonates with you personally. Be authentic and don’t compare yourself to others in your field. Go get facials and see what feels good and which types of facials you enjoy. It’s all about touch!
