Hidden Gems: Meet Wendy Amara

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wendy Amara.

Wendy Amara

Hi Wendy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Most of my teenage life I spent feeling very anxious and depressed. I put a lot of pressure on myself to do the things that “society” and my Guatemalan immigrant parents were telling me I had to do to be successful. In my 20s, I found that even though I had accomplished some of those goals, such as going to college, going to grad school, and getting a good-paying job, I was still finding myself depressed and questioning whether this was the life I really wanted. I had done everything that society and my parents had told me would make me feel happy and I still wasn’t happy.

I was looking for something that would help me manage my life and help me gain clarity. After a lot of searching, and going to therapy and trying medications, I found the world of personal development and Coaching.

Coaching is what really worked for me. It was action-oriented and it taught me new ways of thinking and looking at life. I started experiencing more control over my feelings and beliefs. These experiences changed my life.

I made a decision to leave the career I had invested tons of time into, not to mention student loan payments, and in 2007 I started my own Coaching practice. Keep in mind; this was way before most people knew what a Life Coach was.

I built my business for the first seven years from word of mouth. Over the last four years, I have pivoted my business to focus mostly on coaching Latinas and women of color.

I have now built a $1 million business that attracts hundreds of clients every year and I have helped thousands of women reach their goals.

The Coaching tools I teach are pretty simple. But what I find is most challenging is that our human brain will stop us from implementing these tools on a regular basis – and that’s where Coaching comes in!

I have discovered a way to help my clients reach their goals through consistent management of their thoughts, feelings and actions.

Even though my transition into entrepreneurship has not been easy, I have built a business that brings me so much joy, all the while, working less than I did when I was in the nonprofit management career. I am also making five times more money than I did then. The most exciting part of the life I live now is that I get to teach other Latinas and WOC how to do the same.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road. Some of the struggles I’ve faced along the way had to do with my beliefs around what “hard-work” means and the transition from a 9-to-5 mindset into an entrepreneur mindset. I’ve also had to learn new skills and develop new muscles. Being good at Coaching is not enough to build a successful business. You also have to be good at selling. Through the years, I have developed an expertise in selling. I have also learned other tools, such as marketing, team management, and branding.  The biggest challenge for me has been getting out of my own way and allowing myself to fully own the CEO version of me. That means learning to make quick decisions, owning my power, knowing when to say no, and trusting my intuition. It all comes down to who I am BEING. My thoughts and beliefs equal what I create in my life.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am the CEO and Founder of Wendy Amara Strategic Coaching. We focus on Coaching WOC and Latinas on three aspects of their lives. We help WOC and Latinas create more time, money and impact.

Inspired Action is my Group Coaching Program where I help women learn mindset tools, get unstuck and stay unstuck. It is an action-taking coaching group which includes accountability tools, community, and support. You will document your goals and track your progress on a regular basis.

Get it Done Mastermind is my Mastermind Program. This program is for professionals and entrepreneurs who want to implement tools to level up their life. We create a Strategic Plan for 6 months and then take action on the plan, all while managing our human mind. We specifically work on creating more money and being our future self now.

The YES MUJER BUILD IT Podcast. This year I launched a podcast where I teach powerful coaching tools. The intention of the podcast is to help Latinas and WOC learn the transformational tools that helped me create a life I love. I teach everything from time management to how to say no to your boss when you need to take time off, and how to create confidence.

What makes me stand out from others in the Coaching industry is I am an expert coach. I have been coaching for over 16 years. I have built a sustainable and successful business. I’m the real deal. I am focused on generating RESULTS with my clients. And I am passionate about making sure WOC and Latinas have a place at the table. I am focused on empowering Latinas to create the life they want, including making more money, creating the business or career they want and doing it all with ease and grace.

What are your plans for the future?
I want to continue to build the business and affect the lives of more Latinas and Women of Color. I want to grow into helping more and more women find their true power and build the life they want.
