Today we’d like to introduce you to Sima Cohen.
Hi Sima, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in a small city in Israel. My parents were both immigrants that came from two different countries. They had a dream to build a home and family in Israel. They were proud Jewish people. We lived in a crime-filled neighborhood and seeing that as a young girl made me realize I never wanted to be part of that life. At age 11, I went to live in a Kibbutz. At 18, I joined the Israel army and at the age of 20, I bought a one-way ticket to America, the land of opportunity.
I knew only one person and spoke only five words in English. I had a dream to build a better life than my parents had. I started to work as a cleaner and aerobics instructor at a gym. I made hardly any money, but it taught me discipline and work ethic. Because I took work so seriously, that job shaped me into the hard worker I am today. Everything I do and have now is owed to that experience. I always knew I wanted to work for myself. At the age of 23, I became a personal trainer and had my own personal training business. That was the start of me becoming an entrepreneur. Fifteen years later, I wrote a book and became a published author. This book helped me build my platform on television as a Lifestyle and Wellness expert. The media company I own, the work I do on T.V, the justice reform advocacy I do was all once a dream. Being an entrepreneur takes a lot of drive, dedication and long hours, but for me, it is very rewarding and I wouldn’t choose any other life.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has absolutely not been a smooth road. I experienced breakdown after breakdown, hundreds of no’s and neigh sayers, and many important lessons I needed to learn along the way. For many years I was a single mother raising my wonderful daughter while simultaneously training clients, writing a book, building a brand and starting a company. It was a hard road until the light finally came. There is no magic solution to make your dreams happen. All you can do is continue to work, don’t let anyone define who you are, ground yourself, know you’re worth and do the spiritual work. If you do the work and know who you are then nothing and nobody can dim your light.
We’ve been impressed with SKYLLD International Media, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a certified life coach, on-air personality, published author, and justice reform advocate. I take pride in wearing many different hats. Through my company, SKYLLD International Media, I produce and host lifestyle segments on news programs on networks such as FOX, ABC, CBS, and NBC. I partner with countless brands in the U.S and also Mexico, Canada, Australia, Austria, South Korea, Israel, New Zealand, and the U.K. I am honored to work with brands that share my vision and philosophy of promoting a healthy lifestyle. On my own time, I also coach incarcerated individuals and help them cope with their time in prison. I teach them how to find who they are beyond their crimes and past mistakes. My goal is to help reform these individuals, so they become a better person and can create a wonderful life for themselves once they are released from prison.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My mantra is that everyone and everything appears in your life for a reason. Everyone is here to help each other and teach each other important life lessons. I’ve had the honor of working with world-class mentors such as Marianne Williamson and Keith Horwitz and many others. They were kind enough to mentor and coach me when I needed it the most. The clients and inmates I work with have also taught me in their own unique way. My daughter is one of my biggest teachers in this life. My close friends and my wonderful partner teach me every day. My team. Each of them brings their own wisdom and expertise to the company and I am always open and willing to learn from them.
