Today we’d like to introduce you to Sanda Moldovan.
Hi Sanda, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Dr. Sanda Moldovan, and I am the owner of Beverly Hills Dental Health and Wellness, an integrative dental practice with locations in Encino, Beverly Hills, and Newport Beach. I am also the founder of Orasana, a natural oral care line dedicated to nourishing the mouth and promoting holistic health.
My journey in dentistry is deeply rooted in my mission to educate people about the profound connection between oral health and overall well-being. I believe that by taking care of our mouths, we can feel better, live longer, and enjoy a higher quality of life. This passion is personal to me, stemming from my own struggles with oral health.
At a young age, I had 16 large mercury fillings that left me toxic. It took years to detoxify my body from the heavy metals that could have been prevented with better awareness and healthier choices. This experience ignited a fire in me to empower dentists and future generations to make more informed decisions about dental materials and their impact on our bodies.
At the age of 14, my family and I immigrated to the United States from Romania, seeking a better life. After completing college and dental school, I pursued a residency and was accepted into the prestigious UCLA periodontal program. However, my thirst for knowledge didn’t stop there. I became increasingly interested in the healing process and began studying nutrition. This led me to the Institute of Functional Medicine, where I earned my certification as a Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS).
Throughout my career, I developed my own healing protocol, which I now use to help my patients recover more effectively. In recent years, I have become particularly focused on the oral microbiome, recognizing its critical role in preventing cavities and gum disease. This inspired me to create the Oral Microbiome Reset Method, a comprehensive approach designed to stabilize and enhance oral health.
My work is not only about treating patients but also about spreading knowledge. In my book, Heal Up, I explore various modalities that can aid in the healing process, many of which I incorporate into my practice. My goal is to inspire and empower others to take charge of their oral health, making choices that will benefit their entire body.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting my career, I worked for other dentists, which gave me a strong foundation in the field, but it also made me yearn for something more. I had a vision of integrating nutrition and oral health, but the idea of stepping out on my own was daunting. In 2016, I took a leap of faith and took out my first loan to start my own practice. It was scary—would people resonate with my vision? Would they understand the connection between what we eat and our oral health? I had such a strong passion for it that I had to try, and thankfully, our practice grew rapidly. Our patients saw real improvements in their health, which validated my approach and fueled my drive to continue.
Throughout my career, I’ve also encountered resistance, particularly as a woman in a field where most speakers are still men. When I began speaking on stages, I noticed there was skepticism towards my innovative ideas, especially regarding integrative and holistic approaches to dentistry. It was challenging, but I learned not to be intimidated. I’ve come to understand that everyone is on their own path, and my role is to share what I’ve learned and experienced. I’m not here to convince anyone that my way is the only way; instead, I’m open to change and eager to incorporate new information as science evolves. It’s essential to adapt our approaches to achieve the best results for our patients.
One of the ongoing challenges I face is balancing all my responsibilities. I’m deeply committed to my patients, my team, and keeping my vision alive, even when times are tough. Making sound business decisions that align with my mission of spreading awareness about integrative health while ensuring the success of my practice is no easy task. Amidst it all, I’ve learned the importance of taking care of myself, finding time to recharge, and staying grounded so I can be at my best for those I serve.
