Hidden Gems: Meet Ron Scolesdang of Oka Kickboxing Club

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ron Scolesdang.

Hi Ron, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey really started long before OKA Kickboxing Club existed.

I grew up training in martial arts, and over the years it became the foundation of who I am, teaching me discipline, focus, and the belief that you can transform your life through hard work and consistency.

I went on to compete for years, eventually earning titles as a WBC National Muay Thai Champion and WCK World Champion. But what I valued most wasn’t the belts, it was the impact martial arts had on my character and the way it brought people together.

OKA Kickboxing Club was born from that philosophy. I wanted to create a space that wasn’t just a gym, but a community. A place where people of all ages and backgrounds could train at a high level, learn real technique, and feel supported every step of the way. I partnered with my friends and mentors to build OKA as a premium, small-capacity club so members could get true coaching, real accountability, and a family environment you don’t often find in fitness.

We started with a simple vision: no egos, no excuses, just growth. And we built OKA one student at a time. Seeing people gain confidence, lose weight, learn discipline, or simply find an outlet that makes their day better, that’s what keeps me going.

Today, OKA is a thriving community, and I’m proud of the culture we’ve created. My path hasn’t been linear, and I’m still learning every day, but everything I’ve done, from competing to coaching to community service, has led me to this moment. My goal has always been to use martial arts to change lives, and OKA has become the home where that mission continues to grow.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a smooth road, but every challenge shaped the gym into what it is today.

Like most entrepreneurs in the fitness and martial arts world, I faced a lot of uphill battles. Opening OKA Kickboxing Club wasn’t just about unlocking a door and turning the lights on. It required rebuilding myself multiple times, mentally, financially, and emotionally.

One of the biggest struggles was starting a high-end, technique-based gym in a market full of big-box fitness centers and cardio-kickboxing studios. We weren’t offering a “come in and punch the bag a few times” experience, we were teaching real kickboxing with real coaching. It took time to educate people on why that matters and to grow a community that valued quality over convenience.

Financial pressure was also real in the beginning. We launched in a competitive area, during uncertain economic times, and with limited capacity by design. When you cap membership to maintain quality, you rely heavily on building trust, delivering results, and creating something people truly want to be part of.

But every struggle forced me to grow. It made me sharper as a business owner, more intentional as a coach, and more grateful for the people who believe in what we’re building. Those challenges are the reason OKA has such a strong culture today, a culture based on consistency, community, and the belief that nothing worthwhile comes easy.

So no, it wasn’t a smooth road, but I wouldn’t change any of it. The hard moments created the foundation of who I am and what OKA Kickboxing Club has become.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
OKA Kickboxing Club is more than a gym, it’s a culture built on real technique, real coaching, and real community.

At OKA, we specialize in authentic kickboxing taught at a high level. We don’t water down the art, and we don’t believe in overcrowded classes where no one gets attention. Everything we do revolves around quality, from the level of coaching to the structure of our sessions to the atmosphere we create the moment someone walks through the door.

We’re known for teaching multiple styles of kickboxing with intention, precision, and a focus on long-term growth. Every member learns real technique, gets real corrections, and trains like they matter, because they do. That’s why we intentionally cap our membership. We choose community over volume, connection over chaos.

What sets us apart is the experience. OKA is a premium, small-capacity club by design. Our members aren’t just a number in a room, they become part of a family. Whether you’re a complete beginner or someone with years of experience, you get the same attention, support, and accountability. Our coaches genuinely care. You feel it every class.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the environment we’ve created. We built OKA on the values that shaped my own journey: discipline, consistency, humility, and heart. You see it in how our members train, how they treat each other, and how far they push themselves. When people join OKA, they don’t just get fitter, they gain confidence, structure, community, and a place that feels like home.

For readers who may not know us, here’s what OKA offers:
• High-level kickboxing training with real technique
• Small-capacity sessions so every member gets hands-on coaching
• Private and semi-private training for those who want faster results
• A supportive, ego-free environment where everyone grows together
• A training culture that builds discipline, confidence, and accountability

At OKA, we don’t promise overnight transformation. We promise something better. A consistent, structured path to becoming the strongest version of yourself, mentally and physically.

If there’s one thing I want readers to know, it’s this: OKA Kickboxing Club was built with purpose. We care deeply about our members, we take pride in our craft, and we’re committed to changing lives through martial arts the same way martial arts changed mine.
