Today we’d like to introduce you to Nath Milburn.
Nath, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m an illustrator and filmmaker. I graduated in 2011 from Savannah College of Art & Design. Got my first job in Atlanta after making a connection at a job fair, then moved to LA in late 2014 through someone who had a connection to Nickelodeon. I tested for a show, got the job, and moved within two weeks. I’ve bounced around departments ever since from design to writing to coloring to directing.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest obstacle is the entertainment business as a whole. It’s a brutal field. Constant rejections. Constant competition. A constant battle for proper rates. You’ll hear a lot of “no’s”. Find what you like to do and it’ll become easier to push through that constant flow of setbacks. You have to learn how to budget, take risks, and don’t be afraid to go for it. Enjoy it too. If you don’t, it’ll be even harder.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Lil’ Baker Films?
Along with my colleague, Luke Baker, we run an indie film production house in Los Angeles called lil’ baker films. We primarily focus on our own work, along with smaller commercial work and music videos. We’re only two years old. It started during covid when we both wanted to make films, so we teamed up and have been making them ever since.
I think what sets us apart is our viewpoint. We have a great mix of old and new. Our style has a modern digital feel with vintage/analog techniques. We’re driven by horror, sci-fi, dark comedy, and relationship drama. We’re not afraid to risk it all or experiment, try new things, let the film breathe in its own right, not always giving a solid narrative ending, but a feeling.
We’re a full film production house and can help you make content from start to finish. We enjoy producing, writing, directing, editing, and coloring. We have a wide colleague network to rely on come production and can easily help you realize your video needs.
