Hidden Gems: Meet Michael Holzer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Holzer.

Hi Michael, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
After directing several soccer clubs and coaching college & Men’s UPSL teams in New York City, I moved to California and started my soccer training business. Within only a few months, I became fully booked every day. I then started throwing soccer camps and clinics throughout Los Angeles and Orange County and now also have a soccer party & event company called SoCal Soccer Party. My coaching background and experience was crucial to the growth of my business and I’m very fortunate to have grown a business from what I love doing the most which is soccer.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It took plenty of hard work, long days, and resilience to get to where I am today. My days start at 4:30am and end at 9pm (sometimes later). Being on the field all day long isn’t easy and can be tiring, but I give my all to each session and player, no mater if it’s 5am or 9pm.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I’m most proud of the soccer business I’ve built in only a few month’s time. I didn’t expect my business to be this successful, but the demand keeps growing! The combination of my experience and coaching style is what people value and I’m grateful for every player who I train. It’s truly amazing to see players develop and get better, make teams they didn’t think was possible, and get accepted into colleges and professional clubs.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
The biggest risk I’ve taken was leaving my life behind in New York to move to California. I was running soccer clubs & teams and had many friends – I loved every minute of it. But COVID happened and New York wasn’t the same, so I decided to leave everything behind to move there. My wife is from California so it felt like an easy decision but it was a bit daunting since I didn’t know anyone, nor did I have a career base there.

I started from scratch, not knowing anybody, to building my soccer business that’s fully booked every day. I don’t regret taking the risk to move to California and have never looked back since.
