Today we’d like to introduce you to Marc Hernandez.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story begins in LA. I was born, raised and educated in this city. After graduation from the University of Southern California, I moved to Orange County where I started as a commercial real estate broker of office properties and eventually became a real estate manager for South Coast Plaza, a luxury global retail destination. While there, I aspired to break into the entertainment business, so I left my six-figure management position to land a $350 per week job in the mailroom at United Talent Agency in Beverly Hills, at the age of 36. My parents thought I was crazy. As difficult as it may have seemed, it was the best move I ever made. Soon after, I was hired into the Motion Picture Literary Department where we represented clients such as Wes Anderson, Lesli Linka Glatter, John Favreau, and David Chase. While there, I learned how to represent high-profile clients, how movies were financed, and how to negotiate entertainment contracts. With this experience, I started my own literary management company, Crescendo Entertainment Group which I ran for over three years. A writers strike brought my business to a grinding halt, so I pivoted into ad tech, digital media and television, eventually running national digital advertising sales for FOX Networks Group and American Idol. After a seven-year run, I decided to leverage my extensive contact base, so I obtained my real estate license, started in luxury residential real estate, and I haven’t looked back. I recently created, and am now leading, a real estate team, The Marc Hernandez Group at Compass in Beverly Hills.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have always seen great things in the cards for me. And, I have always felt that creating something great takes knowledge, preparation, time and patience. From setting my mind to gaining acceptance into USC, to starting a career in commercial real estate, to redeveloping my career into entertainment and digital media, and now building a successful real estate business, consistently within the top 5% of real estate agents nationwide, all of it has always seemed reachable. It really begins with having the right mindset, having a sense of humor, and not taking yourself too seriously. With this mindset, I feel that it has been a fairly smooth road, with challenges that have been easily overcome.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I lead a group of agents at Compass in Beverly Hills. I work within a unified, national real estate technology platform with over 19,000 real estate agents, so I am able to collaborate and service real estate clients locally, regionally and nationally. And, although I have worked with clients in New York, Miami, and Chicago, the majority of my business is conducted in the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area, primarily along the Sunset Corridor, from Silver Lake to Santa Monica. I have a very innovative process, engage and negotiate smarter and harder than the competition, and even have a 95% Win Rate Percentage on multiple offers for my buyer clients. At the end of the day, I connect great people with great property, I deliver remarkable real estate outcomes, and I spoil my clients.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something surprising about me is that I am very compassionate about the well-being and protection of animals. In fact, for the past seven years I have served on the board of directors of The Gentle Barn, a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching people kindness and compassion to animals, each other and our planet.
