Hidden Gems: Meet Liz Laub of The Luxury Picnic Co.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Liz Laub

Hi Liz, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My first decade in LA was all about climbing the production ladder. I moved here after film school and jumped right into producing stories for reality TV. But over time, I realized storytelling isn’t just something that happens on a screen – it’s everywhere. That realization led me to tourism, where I get to tell the story of Los Angeles in a totally new way.

As the marketing director at Bikes and Hikes LA, I don’t just promote tours – I help bring the city to life. Our experiences aren’t just about hitting landmarks; they’re immersive, interactive, and unforgettable. Every tour feels like a story unfolding in real-time – our guides are the narrators, our guests are the main characters, and LA itself is the star.

Shifting from production to tourism wasn’t just a career change – it was a natural evolution. I’ve always been drawn to storytelling, and now, instead of crafting narratives behind the scenes, I get to create experiences that let people live them firsthand.

And the story doesn’t stop there. Together with Danny Roman, CEO of Bikes and Hikes LA, we’ve created something new – The Luxury Picnic Co.

Just like our bike and hike tours, these luxury picnics are about more than just a pretty setup – they’re about crafting unforgettable moments. We took our love for the outdoors and combined it with high-end, curated picnics in some of Southern California’s most stunning locations. Whether it’s a romantic proposal, a milestone birthday, or just an excuse to celebrate, we’re giving people a whole new way to experience LA.

I didn’t just end up in tourism – I found my passion in it. And with every tour, every picnic, and every experience we create, the story of Los Angeles keeps unfolding.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but nothing worthwhile ever is!

When I transitioned from reality TV to tourism, I had to completely rethink how I approached storytelling. In television, especially reality TV, you’re constantly shaping stories on the fly – adapting to what’s happening in real-time, finding the best angles, and making sure the story unfolds in a compelling way. In tourism, it’s a similar challenge, but instead of shaping narratives for viewers, I’m helping guests experience the story of Los Angeles firsthand. No two tours are ever the same, no two picnics are ever the same, and learning to embrace that unpredictability has been both challenging and incredibly rewarding.

Launching The Luxury Picnic Co. was another big leap. It meant building something entirely new from the ground up – concept, branding, logistics, partnerships – all while we were still engaging and growing Bikes and Hikes LA. Like any new venture, there were growing pains, but seeing it take off and bring people joy has made every challenge worth it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At The Luxury Picnic Co., we create high-end outdoor experiences that take outdoor events to the next level. Whether it’s a team retreat, executive lunch, brand activation, romantic date, or just beacuse, we provide a seamless, stylish setup in some of Southern California’s most beautiful locations.

These aren’t just picnics – they’re fully designed experiences that combine comfort, elegance, and top-tier service. One of our most stand-out packages is our “All Inclusive Picnic Package” – This package INCLUDES a gourmet picnic lunch!

With years of experience working on several different HGTV shows, I have acquired an eye for staging, styling, and creating the perfect atmosphere. This expertise makes our team uniquely qualified to design picture-perfect picnics that feel effortless yet elevated.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I see risk as a necessary part of growth. I don’t take unnecessary risks, but I do believe in betting on myself when it makes sense.

One of the biggest risks I took was leaving a stable career in TV production (House Hunters, House Hunters Renovation) to build The Luxury Picnic Co. and grow Bikes and Hikes LA. It wasn’t the easy choice, but I trusted my instincts.

For me, risk is about weighing the options and moving forward, even when there are no guarantees.
