Today we’d like to introduce you to Leona Usaty.

Leona Usaty

Hi Leona, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
In 2003, my journey began when my family and I relocated to Thailand, specifically Phuket in Asia. My initial job was as a manager at a hotel, which was a rewarding experience. However, it was during my time at a travel agency that my true calling emerged. I discovered that some tourists were spending the equivalent of the cost of a local apartment on their vacations. These apartments were not just ordinary ones; they were well-appointed with one or two bedrooms, a pool, gym, parking, and more.

Unlike in other countries, being a real estate professional in Thailand doesn’t require a license initially. But starting from scratch in a foreign land is certainly no easy feat. Fortunately, I had already developed a trusted and friendly relationship with a local attorney, a remarkable woman who is still a dear friend to this day. I sought her advice and spent several weeks in her office meticulously studying the complex process of land ownership for foreigners.

Once I had gained a thorough understanding of the legal aspect of the business and set up everything properly, I embarked on marketing my real estate services. This was in 2003, 20 years ago. With a simple website and a few ads, my phone started ringing with inquiries. I dedicated myself to hard work, traveling extensively to different areas and islands, and gradually reaped the rewards.

Within just two years, my business had grown to the point where I could purchase my own office space. And the team expanded to include nearly 50 employees. Real estate became my passion, as I relished the opportunity to assist buyers and sellers in finding exactly what they needed.

In my opinion, being a real estate professional is about more than just buying and selling properties. It’s about genuinely caring for and helping people. This mindset serves as the foundation for my work.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life, in general, is not an easy path, and the same goes for professional life. Navigating the road to success is a challenging task. When my family moved to Los Angeles 11 years ago, it felt like I was starting from square one. I had to familiarize myself with new laws, regulations, and a different market. Acquiring the necessary license took a significant amount of time, with six months dedicated to education and licensing. Building a website also took another six months, thanks to cutting-edge technology and automated MLS database integration. Despite the challenges, I found the process of preparation to be truly enlightening. The industry is guided and governed by incredible organizations like the DRE, NAR, and CAR, from which I gained a wealth of knowledge and continue to expand upon. In order to effectively serve clients in the diverse real estate landscape of California, it is crucial to be well-trained in various niches, including foreclosures, probate processes, working with seniors, and real estate investment. I am committed to ongoing education as I strive to be the best at meeting the needs of my clients.
