Hidden Gems: Meet Krista Walsh of Krista Walsh Copywriter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Krista Walsh.

Hi Krista, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
After working in an office throughout college (pursuing those career internships like my life depended on it!), I graduated feeling disillusioned with the life I thought I was working toward. The people were amazing, but the “two weeks vacation per year” and lack of agency over my days were panic-inducing. So, rather than applying for a “real job,” I moved to Spain to teach English part-time and freelance as an editor and writer for books, magazines, and marketing.

The last niche stuck — I was fascinated by the buyer psychology of it all. And I was in love with the freedom of freelancing. So, when I moved back to the US to Los Angeles, I went all in on freelancing. Over the next 7+ years, I built a thriving business, honed my craft, and narrowed my focus to where it is today: messaging, website strategy, and copywriting for growing service-based brands, like agencies, consultants, and creatives. I’m so glad the younger version of me listened to my heart and dared to reach for a different kind of career.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Any entrepreneur who says that it’s always smooth is lying. I’ve tried so many different things, and only a few have ultimately been right for me and my business. But that’s how you learn: by experimenting. Some of my lessons learned (aka, the things that didn’t pan out) include:

– launching a course before I was ready (I was just 1.5 years in, but everyone told me I *should* do a course — they were wrong)

– dabbling in many different industry verticals before realizing that I’m more successful by niching by business model (services!) and project type (website messaging!) rather than industry

– a full year trialing a full-service agency model (offering, design, copy, and SEO with a team), then realizing I didn’t love the management role … or the profit margins

I’m in a good place now, in my zone of genius, working 1:1 with clients to nail their messaging and website strategy. And I’m also more resilient, thanks to learning through moments like these. I no longer view them as mistakes. I view them as proof that I’m taking calculated risks for growth, being wise enough to know when it’s not working for me, and courageous enough to pivot again to something that flows better. This is what I see all the entrepreneurs I admire doing (many of whom are my clients!), and I think it’s a key element of grounded success.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Krista Walsh Copywriter (soon to be known as Krista Walsh & Co.) is a messaging and website strategy studio for service-based brands, including agencies, professional services companies, consultants, and creatives.

As a self-proclaimed “website freak,” I’m best known for my website messaging work that turns websites into sales tools that attract highly invested clients and position you as the trusted authority in your space.

My controversial belief is that for service-based brands, your website should only speak to one person: your ideal client at an ideal moment, the second they’re ready to hire.

So rather than simply “clearly explaining what you do and who for,” I help my clients dial in their differentiators and make the case for why they’re the *best* option for their clients, not just *an* option. In turn, this leads to closing more qualified clients with less effort because your website makes the best sales pitch of your life for you. You? Just share your URL and reach for the stars.

What does success mean to you?
Success is a decision. It’s the moment you bet on yourself and make a promise to always return to self-belief, even when — especially when — the self-doubt creeps in. When you do this (and I’m not saying it’s easy), traditional markers of success are inevitable. It’s just a matter of time.
