Today we’d like to introduce you to Jillian Estrella.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I come from a fashion background where I worked in production, design, and graphics. In 2021, like many others during the pandemic, I was laid off from my job as a textile designer. While it was an unexpected shift, it gave me the opportunity to explore new possibilities, and it actually opened the door to something better.
I began freelancing for several companies, including the one I was laid off from, and I quickly realized how much I valued the flexibility and freedom it gave me. I had more time to travel, connect with loved ones, and enjoy life on my own terms. I knew I wanted to create a lifestyle where that kind of balance could continue.
That experience led me to explore new creative paths. I’ve always had an interest in beauty and hair, so I started looking into cosmetology. Along the way, I discovered lash artistry, and they instantly caught my attention. They looked fun, artistic, and like something I could truly enjoy.
I found out I needed an esthetician or cosmetology license to do lashes, so I enrolled in esthetician school and also started taking lash extension courses. From the moment I picked up my first lash tweezer, I was hooked.
To gain hands-on experience, I worked at a few different franchise lash salons, which helped me refine my technique and get a better understanding of the business side of the industry. I also spent a lot of time researching what it would take to go fully independent.
I opened up my studio in January of 2023 and here I am 2 years later. I’m proud to be working for myself and building something of my own. I love the creativity, the precision, and the confidence I get to help others feel. It’s been such a fun and fulfilling journey so far, and I’m excited for all that’s still ahead.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
So far it has been a pretty smooth road.
As you know, we’re big fans of Jewel Sky Beauty. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At Jewel Sky Beauty, I offer a variety of beauty services including facials, lash lifts, brow laminations, brow shaping, waxing, tinting, and my specialty lash extensions with a focus on lash artistry.
What sets my work apart is the customized approach I take with every client. Before applying lashes, I spend time consulting with each person to understand their eye shape, lifestyle, and the overall look they want to achieve. Every set is personalized to enhance their natural beauty, whether they’re looking for something soft and natural or bold and dramatic. I would say I am known for creating wispy textured sets.
I take great pride in maintaining the health and integrity of my clients’ natural lashes. Applying extensions correctly takes time, skill, and precision, and I never rush the process. After each service, I make sure to educate my clients on proper aftercare so they can keep their lashes looking their best without causing damage.
I am also passionate about continuing education. It’s a huge part of my commitment to this work. I’m always learning and taking advanced classes to stay up to date on the latest styles, techniques, and products. I also attend conferences and workshops with professionals like chemists, optometrists, and dermatologists to better understand potential allergies, sensitivities, and solutions. Staying informed allows me to offer safer, smarter services to my clients. I truly believe that knowledge is just as important as skill.
My goal is always to provide a high quality, relaxing experience where clients leave feeling more confident, cared for, and informed. I love what I do, and I’m proud to offer a service that blends creativity, care, and continuous growth.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I grew up in a neighborhood where a bunch of my cousins lived, which made everyday life feel like one big adventure. One of my favorite memories is riding our bikes all over the neighborhood and catching frogs in the LA River (I am pretty sure I put a frog in my overalls front pocket to keep with me all day). We had so much fun! We’d ride for hours, play silly games that we made up on the spot, spend the whole day outside until the streetlights came on, and enjoy being kids together. It was such a carefree, magical time that I’ll always look back on with a smile.
