Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Wilde.
Heather, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I went to Cornell to study the science of consciousness and what makes us human Neurobiology for nature – and sociology for nurture. I was disillusioned by my fellow premed students’ greed and desire for power, and switched to researching pharmacology and ethnobotany; how native peoples use plants for medicine for innovative drug creation. Second semester, my senior year, a couple months before I was scheduled to go to the rainforest and research, I was in a head on collision on black ice and almost lost my leg. The surgeons saved my life and my leg, but they never expected me to walk, run, ski or backpack again. I was young enough to believe they were wrong, and I explored alternative medicine to help me heal it three times faster than they expected, and then fixed my joints with functional medicine – nutrition, prolotherapy and food sensitivity testing, physical training and functional movement. I have no functional deficits, and I am no longer in pain even though I look a complete mess on MRI and EMG studies. My own personal journey led me to naturopathic medicine – because I’ve been in practice since long before “functional medicine” and “biohacking” became popular with influencers. I’ve worked with a wide range of patients: from recovering drug addicts to professional athletes, integrative oncology to anti-aging. I’ve traveled and spoken internationally with entrepreneurial groups looking to change society for the better, and now I am the clinical director for three health centers in the Sacramento area.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My struggles have been financial, physical, mental, emotional, social and professional. I wouldn’t know what to do with a smooth road I guess – my human design blueprint shows that life runs into me hard, I learn how to overcome it, and then teach others it is possible to do the same, and how to do it. I have owned my own businesses, built courses that failed, tried many different marketing ideas, wrote a book, and have had friendships and fortunes shift and change. Getting back up after fate punches you in the face and karma kicks you in the stomach is my secret to life.
In 2018 I was fired from a cushy corporate job, sued twice, my dog died, my brother was seriously ill, I had a falling out with my family, started a new business, began a spiritual journey, my cat died and then I left the father of my son all within 6 months. Eight years later, I am being harassed and dragged through family court, my son is starting to act like a tween, I planned a wedding, honeymooned, was promoted to my dream job, my dog died, one brother is having health concerns, the other has disowned the family and my father has the beginning stages of dementia- all while I am in perimenopause and experiencing a visceral diminishment of my physical vitality. It is strange to look at the second half of your life, mourn the health and beauty you may have taken for granted, and wonder which dramatic plot twist is going to be the one that takes you out.
As you know, we’re big fans of Xplore Health. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Xplore Health is a rebrand of the oldest wellness center in America. It was started in 1989 by Dr. Ed Hendricks, and was primarily a weight loss center. I took it over when Dr. Hendricks retired, at the age of 90, and have brought higher level integrative medicine options to the practice including: Bioidential hormone replacement therapy, IVs, peptides, natural aesthetics like PDO threads and Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF biofiller), PRP microneedling and prescription strength skin care, PRF, neuraltherapy, prolotherapy, neurolinguistic programming, hypnosis, advanced supplementation, functional lab testing, and integrative antiaging.
I am proud of all the options that we offer our patients, and the commitment to education and facilitating our patients’ healing journey so they can live their best, healthiest life. None of us get out of this alive – I am commited to helping my patients age as slowly, and gracefully as possible.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Roseville, Granite Bay and Folsom are the best place in California to live. in my opinion. We are 2 hours from Napa, San Francisco, and Lake Tahoe. We have Folsom lake, beautiful foothills, and a clean, relatively healthy place to live at the top of the breadbasket of the country. We have the best food in the world available with farmers markets and farm to fork everywhere.
I don’t like how a common question around here is: “where did you go to high school?” My answer is New York State – so I can’t be put in your high school clique box.
