Today we’d like to introduce you to Grace Getzen.
Hi Grace, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve taken huge risks and giant leaps of faith on my journey through life; from surviving brain surgery as a teenager to receiving a scholarship at a leading dance academy in New York City where I moved to at the tender age of 21 with $600 in my pocket and no job.
I grew up in the small town of Lunenburg, MA surrounded by farmland. It was an idyllic upbringing filled with beautiful experiences, most of which took place outside in nature. My childhood was filled with horses, chickens, camping, canoeing, dancing, and drive-ins to name a few.
As a young adult, I was fortunate enough to move out at a young age, go to college, dance with a wonderful company, and create the life I wanted. It always gravitated between the arts and helping others. After crashing an audition for fun, I was awarded a dance scholarship for Alvin Ailey’s. I took a risk and moved to New York City rather suddenly. I eventually met my husband-to-be who had flown into the city from California for work. We dated long distance and then, given that I take huge leaps into the unknown, I packed up my cats and books and moved to California after 7+ years in NYC.
In California, I found my path into the wellness industry through training in Reiki Mastery and Massage Therapy. This led me to a career managing and coaching a team of over 60 massage therapists for a well-known luxury spa. With over 20 years and 1000+ hours of schooling in the health and wellness industry, I have extensive training in leadership, conflict management, building intimacy, and compassionate communication. I shifted into one on one coaching as well as teaching workshops to those seeking to recapture joy and authentic living. I developed a unique ability to unwrap the stories that block my client’s journey, get to the heart of an issue quickly, create a safe space to shine a light on it, and help them see what else is possible. I’m an expert at finding unique methods of communication that are customized to each person.
I work with my clients to help them align with their true values, learn to speak them with authority, rediscover their own authentic selves, and create a series of measurable goals to regain control over their lives. People simply want to feel like their lives have meaning, that what they do matters, and that what they have to offer is enough. I help them realize those truths.
For fun and downtime, I enjoy writing and storytelling about the vagaries of daily life with an eye toward the lighter side of things, dancing at the local freestyle dance jam and shooting my bow in back canyons while hawks play on updrafts.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. Achieving success, no matter how one measures it is never smooth. It is only through adversity and challenges that we are called to grow and elevate our consciousness. Some of the struggles that formed the woman I am today were surviving brain surgery, moving out of my home at a young age, going through heartbreak and divorce among so many other small daily challenges. Were it not for all this adversity, I would not have the resilience, hope, gratitude, and faith that I have today.
We’ve been impressed with Get Zen Coaching, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
In my coaching practice, I have several offerings. I offer one-to-one coaching and workshops on conflict management, developing intimacy with your partner, and a plethora of communication techniques that are customized to fit each situation among other methods. I’ve trained in A.C.T. (Accountable Communication Technology), NVC (Non-Violent Communication), Imago Dialog, and Gottman Method to name a few.
I also teach Reiki from level I practitioner all the way up to Master training. I offer Sound Baths and meditation as adjunct therapy to my coaching and Reiki session work.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Los Angeles and the surrounding suburbs (like Pasadena where I live) are AMAZING! I am a HUGE fan of finding events to experience. I love the variety of theater, immersive events, music venues, small clubs and bars, fantastic restaurants, and the access we all have to the mountains and the beaches!
What I like the least about the city is the traffic, crazy heat waves and the sound of leaf blowers everywhere!
