Hidden Gems: Meet Felisa Dees of LC Candles

Felisa , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My entrepreneurial journey began in 2004 with a simple frustration that eventually turned into a passion. I’ve always loved candles and the way a beautiful fragrance can transform a space, create an atmosphere, and become part of a special moment. However, I often found myself disappointed after purchasing candles that smelled amazing in the store but barely had a fragrance once I brought them home and lit them.
At the time, I was working for a fragrance company that supplied fragrance oils to many candle manufacturers. Being in that environment gave me a unique opportunity to learn about the fragrance industry from behind the scenes. Rather than continuing to be frustrated as a consumer, I decided to educate myself, learn the business, and create something of my own. That’s how LC Candles was born.
My vision was simple: to create beautifully scented candles that actually deliver on their promise. I wanted to create more than just candles. I wanted to create experiences, fragrances that fill a room, evoke memories, set the mood, and become part of life’s everyday special moments.
Along the way, I’ve continued to grow creatively and personally. I’m also the author of TRANSFORMED FROM HER TO ME, a book available through Barnes & Noble, and the host of The GoldMic Podcast, where I sit down with my family to have conversations about a variety of topics. Both have given me additional opportunities to express myself, share experiences, and connect with others beyond my candle business.
Today, LC Candles operates primarily online, but my vision is much bigger. One of my goals is to expand into physical retail locations, creating spaces where customers can experience our fragrances firsthand and connect with the brand on a more personal level.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey hasn’t been without challenges. Over the years, I’ve experienced personal obstacles and life changes that required me to pause and restart my business several times. There were seasons when I had to shift my focus, regroup, and rebuild. But one thing remained constant: I never completely walked away from my dream. Deep down, I knew I had something special, and my passion for creating candles never disappeared.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
LC Candles is a fragrance-focused candle company that was created out of my love for beautiful scents and my belief that a candle should do more than simply look pretty sitting on a shelf. It should create an experience. At LC Candles, our focus is on creating richly scented candles that bring warmth, comfort, and personality into any space. I’ve always believed that fragrance has a special way of connecting with our emotions. A familiar scent can bring back a beautiful memory, change the atmosphere of a room, or make an ordinary moment feel extraordinary. That’s the experience I want people to have when they light an LC Candle.
What sets LC Candles apart is the passion and intention behind the brand. My background working in the fragrance industry gave me an understanding of how important fragrance is to the overall candle experience. One of my biggest frustrations as a consumer was purchasing candles that smelled wonderful in the store but didn’t deliver that same fragrance experience once they were burning. I wanted to change that.
When I began my candle business back in 2004, my goal was to create candles with fragrances that consumers could truly enjoy throughout their spaces. That commitment continues to be at the heart of my business today.
For me, LC Candles is about more than selling a product. It’s about becoming part of people’s moments. Whether someone is unwinding after a long day, entertaining guests, enjoying a quiet evening, or celebrating a special occasion, I want our candles to help create an atmosphere they’ll remember. One of the things I’m most proud of is that LC Candles is still here. Building a business while navigating life’s unexpected challenges hasn’t always been easy, but I’ve never lost my belief in what I created. Every time I’ve had to rebuild or begin again, I’ve returned with greater appreciation for the brand and a stronger vision for its future.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
For me, success is so much more than money, recognition, or reaching a certain level in life. I define success as having the courage to pursue your dreams, the strength to overcome obstacles, and the determination to keep going even when life doesn’t unfold the way you planned. Over the years, my definition of success has evolved. There was a time when I measured success by what I accomplished or how far I had gotten in my business, but life has taught me that success isn’t always about the destination. Sometimes it’s about the person you become along the way.
As an entrepreneur, I’ve experienced seasons of growth, setbacks, and new beginnings. I’ve had to put my dreams on hold, make difficult adjustments, and start over more than once. I’ve learned that starting over doesn’t mean you’ve failed. Sometimes it means you’ve gained the wisdom, strength, and experience needed for your next chapter.

When I look at LC Candles, my book TRANSFORMED FROM HER TO ME, and The GoldMic Podcast, I see more than business ventures or accomplishments. I see pieces of my journey, my creativity, and my willingness to continue growing and exploring what’s possible for my life. I also believe success is about having peace with who you are, being proud of how far you’ve come, and creating something meaningful that can positively impact others. It’s about being able to look at your life and know that, despite the challenges, you never completely gave up on yourself or your dreams. Ultimately, I define success as becoming the person I was meant to be while creating a life that reflects my purpose, my passion, and my perseverance. Success isn’t just about what I achieve. It’s about who I become in the process.
