Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Rozmid, PhD, ABPP.
Hi Erica, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Born and raised in Los Angeles, I always knew I wanted to build my career in the city that raised me. After graduate school and postdoctoral training, I joined UCLA, where I worked on research grants to implement and disseminate trauma-informed care for suicidal youth. I also realized how much I missed sitting in the room with kids and their families. That pull back toward direct clinical work is what led me to open Clarity CBT & DBT Center in 2021.
Our mission is simple: provide evidence-based treatment and do what actually works for each family. Some families come to us needing light support for a child’s anxiety. Others come to us as the last stop before a higher level of care. We’re built to meet both.
Our team is deeply committed to improving the lives of the people we treat, and you can feel that from the moment you call our clinic. We often describe ourselves as a family, partly because we treat families. It’s common for one of our clinicians to work with a parent while another works with their child, and we meet weekly as a team to make sure everyone’s care stays coordinated.
We also offer comprehensive dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) across the lifespan, for children, adolescents, and adults. That includes individual therapy, skills groups, between-session phone coaching, and a dedicated DBT consultation team.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing in life is ever completely smooth, but working alongside an amazing team makes it about as smooth as it can be. I could have run Clarity as a solo practice, but what brings me the most joy is building something with clinicians who are just as committed to the mission as I am.
We opened during the pandemic, when teen mental health struggles were surging, and we’ve kept adapting to meet our patients’ needs ever since. Because we specialize in treating suicidality and self-harm, I’d be lying if I said the road has been easy. The work is heavy, and it asks a lot of our team. But it’s also some of the most meaningful work there is, and seeing a young person and their family come through their hardest moments makes every challenge worth it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Clarity CBT & DBT Center?
Clarity CBT & DBT Center is an outpatient mental health group practice in Los Angeles, with offices in West LA and Beverly Hills. We provide evidence-based therapy across the lifespan, with a special focus on children, teens, young adults, and their families.
We’re best known for CBT & comprehensive dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) for teens and adults struggling with self-harm and suicidal thoughts. Our goal is to keep patients out of the hospital and engaged in their lives by building treatment around what matters most to them.
Serious work doesn’t have to feel heavy, though. We make therapy interactive and engaging, whether that means using virtual reality for exposure therapy or doing improv to help someone face their social anxiety in real time. When therapy is something people actually look forward to, they show up, and that’s when change happens.
Families sometimes tell us we’re their 13th therapist. They’ve tried therapy before and it didn’t work, and then something finally clicks. That’s because we go deep, build a plan that fits the child and the family, and coordinate closely with every provider on their care team. We offer short-term, goal-oriented treatment and track progress with assessments along the way. If a patient isn’t improving, we don’t wait. We adjust the plan as needed.
That’s what our name is about. We want every family to leave with clarity about what’s driving their child’s symptoms and clarity about the path forward.
I’m especially proud of my newest offering, The Rozmid Intensive™. Many of the parents I meet in Los Angeles have already done everything right. They’ve consulted the best people and read everything, and they still feel stuck. Usually the problem isn’t effort. A weekly 45-minute session doesn’t fit a life built around filming schedules, tours, or constant travel. And the many people who touch a child’s world, from caregivers to tutors to medical providers, are rarely working from the same plan.
The Intensive was built to close that gap. Before we ever sit down together, I consult privately with the care team so everyone is aligned. Then I spend one full, uninterrupted day with the parents, getting to the root of what’s driving the struggle and building a written, evidence-based plan to start using that night. For the 60 days that follow, my team and I stay directly accessible as the plan meets real life. It condenses what would typically take months of therapy into one focused, fully confidential experience. We offer it to a limited number of families each year, and you can learn more at claritycbt.com/rozmid-intensive.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love most about Los Angeles is the people who make it what it is, and the fact that discovery here never ends. I was born and raised in this city, and I still learn something new about it every single day. I can do as little or as much as I want. I can be at the beach in ten minutes, on the ski slopes in a few hours, or out rock climbing (which, to be fair, I haven’t done in a few years). And most days of the year, I can take my kids and our dog out for a walk in perfect weather.
What I like least? Like just about everyone else, I’d have to say the traffic. But to me, it’s worth it.
