Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Freeman.
Hi Brian, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a Los Angeles-based photographer originally from Buffalo, NY. Before relocating to Los Angeles nearly eight years ago with my wife, Kimberly (Makeup Artist), I spent many years living in Hampton Roads, Virginia, and the DMV region, where we began building our business.
Photography saved my life. While in graduate school at Hampton University studying architecture, I felt my life heading in the wrong direction and dreaded what my reality would look like over the next 20 years. I fell into a deep depression that made it difficult to show up each day, causing me to miss many days of work and school. During this time, my friend Quinelle and I started a clothing brand that helped take my mind off the stress of work and school. To market our clothing, I picked up a camera out of necessity, and that need quickly turned into a passion that changed my life.
I made the bold decision to quit my job and move to Washington, DC, to pursue photography full-time. Since then, I’ve been blessed to be featured by The Los Angeles Times, Under Armour, Apple, Forbes, Facebook, Snapchat, Everlast, The New York Times, Mazda, AT&T, Ford, USA Today, The Washington Post, the Calm app, Hypebeast, Puma, Essence, Ebony, the Washington Wizards, Deadline, NPR, and many other companies and publications.
I later moved to Los Angeles, where my wife (Makeup Artist) and I own BFree Studios, a photography and production studio in downtown Los Angeles.
God is the greatest.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Things have not always been smooth while living in purpose. I always tell my mentees that business is like fishing: there will be days when you throw your net into the water and see no return for the time you’ve invested. But on the days when you reap a harvest, you’ll be glad you threw out the net.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
BFree Studios is a photography and production studio located in downtown Los Angeles. Our studio has hosted more than 1,000 bookings over the past four years. I serve as the resident photographer, and my wife serves as the resident makeup artist.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
I absolutely love people! My mission is to serve people and their visions. There is nothing like helping bring a person’s vision, especially when they’re in a place of frustration, to fruition.
