Hidden Gems: Meet April Wilhelm of Get Tasked

Today we’d like to introduce you to April Wilhelm.

Hi April, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey has been anything but linear. I know what it means to carry a lot through seasons as a single mom, a military spouse, and a working mother trying to build a career while keeping my family afloat.

One of the most defining moments of my life came when I gave birth to my baby in Pasadena at just 26 weeks. While my child fought to grow stronger in the NICU, I was still expected to work. I answered emails, managed projects, and joined calls from the NICU room. That experience showed me how many women are quietly holding businesses, careers, and families together while navigating circumstances no one else can see.

Over the next decade, I built a career in marketing and operations and eventually grew a successful consulting business supporting founders and growing companies. As I worked closely with business owners and department heads, I noticed the same problem everywhere: great ideas and important decisions were constantly getting lost in voice notes, meetings, text messages, and overloaded minds. The issue was not a lack of ambition or ideas. It was the gap between talking about the work and actually getting it organized and executed.

That gap inspired me to build Get Tasked, a voice-first project management platform that turns conversations, meetings, and voice notes into clear, trackable tasks with owners and next steps. I built the tool I wish I had during every demanding season of my life, something that could capture what was in my head and help move it forward without requiring one more complicated system to manage.

Today, I’m building Get Tasked for founders, business owners, and department leaders who are carrying big ideas and even bigger responsibilities. My story has taught me that resilience is powerful, but people should not have to rely on resilience alone. The right technology can create breathing room, protect our best ideas, and help us follow through on the work that matters most.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. I have navigated single motherhood, life as a military spouse, financial uncertainty, career changes, and the pressure of building something new while still working and raising a family.

One of the hardest seasons was giving birth to my baby at just 26 weeks and still having to work from the NICU room. There was no pause button. I had to continue showing up professionally while carrying the emotional weight of watching my child fight to grow stronger. That experience changed how I think about work, support, and the invisible responsibilities so many women carry.

Building Get Tasked has brought a different set of challenges. I entered the technology space without the traditional founder background, a large team, or unlimited funding. I have had to learn product development, fundraising, customer acquisition, and leadership in real time, often while working another job and running my consulting business. There have been technical setbacks, long days, difficult decisions, and moments when I questioned whether I was qualified to build something this ambitious.

However, those struggles are also why Get Tasked exists. I understand what it feels like to have too much in your head and not enough time, capacity, or support to execute it all. Every difficult season has shaped both the founder I am becoming and the product I am building. The road has not been smooth, but it has been meaningful, and each challenge has made the mission clearer.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Get Tasked is a voice-first project management platform built for people who think out loud. It turns voice notes, meetings, and conversations into organized, trackable tasks with clear owners, deadlines, and next steps. Instead of asking busy founders and team leaders to stop what they are doing, open another complicated platform, and manually organize every thought, Get Tasked meets them where they already are.

We specialize in closing the gap between conversation and execution. Business owners rarely struggle because they lack ideas. They struggle because those ideas are scattered across voice notes, text messages, meetings, notebooks, and dozens of open tabs. Get Tasked captures that information and turns it into a structure that teams can actually follow.

What sets us apart is our focus on simplicity. We are not trying to become another overwhelming project management system with endless features people never use. Get Tasked is designed for founders, executives, department heads, sales professionals, and small teams who need a fast, natural way to move work forward. We also offer integrations that allow users to connect Get Tasked with the tools and workflows they already use.

I am most proud that Get Tasked was built from a real need rather than an assumption. I spent years working in marketing and operations, supporting founders and leading projects inside growing businesses. I saw firsthand how much valuable information was being lost between meetings, conversations, and execution. That experience shaped every part of the product.

Brand wise, I am proud that we are making productivity feel more human and accessible. You should not have to become a project management expert to run your business well. Our brand is practical, approachable, and built for real people with full lives and busy minds.

Get Tasked has already grown to more than 130 users, and we are continuing to build alongside our community. Users receive more than software. They gain access to a founder who listens, learns from their experiences, and uses their feedback to shape what we build next.

Ultimately, I want readers to know that Get Tasked is about more than creating a to-do list. It is about protecting great ideas, creating clarity, and helping people follow through on the work that matters most. Your best ideas should not die in a voice note.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
There are several ways people can work with or support me. Business owners and teams can try Get Tasked, share their feedback, and introduce the platform to others who are tired of letting great ideas get lost in voice notes and meetings.

I am also open to partnerships with communities, podcasts, events, accelerators, and organizations serving founders, women in business, and growing teams. These collaborations can include workshops, speaking opportunities, member benefits, product demonstrations, and custom activations.

As we continue to grow, I am connecting with aligned advisors and angel investors who believe in voice-first technology, practical AI, and building tools that help people execute without adding more complexity to their lives.

Even a simple introduction, social media share, or recommendation can make a meaningful difference at this stage. People can learn more at gettasked.io or connect with me on Instagram at @itsaprilwilhelm.
