Hidden Gems: Meet Alison Deyette of Alison Deyette Media

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alison Deyette.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I didn’t take the straight path—I took the glossy one. I started out as a magazine editor and writer, spending my days crafting clever cover lines, writing a variety of articles from lifestyle to semi-hard-hitting pieces and interviewing celebrities. An editor liked the way I dressed and nudged me into the fashion and beauty arena. That led to becoming a fashion and beauty director, which meant meeting with designers, brands, attending fashion shows, working alongside photographers, casting models, overseeing a larger staff and determining what to cover, shoot and write about.

From there, things got a little more fab. I began traveling the world, directing photo shoots that involved couture gowns to casual garb, plenty of sunrise to sunset days, and the occasional logistical chaos involving location scouting to delayed luggage. That’s when I realized: I wasn’t just telling stories—I was producing them. And before I knew it, I was stepping out from behind the page and in front of the camera.

TV came calling, and I answered—first as a fashion and lifestyle expert, then as a TV host for a variety of national and cable programs and digital series and eventually as the go-to media trainer for people who need help saying what they mean and sounding like a pro while doing it. These days, I split my time between media coaching, brand strategy, and making regular appearances on shows like The Kelly Clarkson Show, EXTRA, and KTLA. I also regularly contribute to a variety of online and print publications, including The Wall Street Journal,
The New York Times, The Washington Post, New York, The Strategist, InStyle, Real Simple, USA Today, and The Cut. On a daily basis, I’m helping a diverse clientele, from CEOs, celebrities, athletes, musicians and experts look and sound like the best version of themselves. Because no matter how you’re showing up—on camera, on stage, or on socials—your message deserves a makeover that’s as powerful as your presence. I help clients say it better with stronger storytelling and confidence.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I said yes to opportunities before I had time to overthink them, logged plenty of long days for the sake of experience (and exposure, and let’s be honest—a decent byline), and trusted that the big paychecks would eventually catch up. My career kicked off in New York, the city of hustle, deadlines, and no-nonsense, say it like it is kind of talk. When I made the move to L.A. for my husband, it wasn’t a total restart—I’d already been flying out for regular TV gigs—but it still took some recalibrating. Different coast, different vibe, and now driving in traffic to deal with. I’ll also admit I’m still trying to master networking.

We’ve been impressed with Alison Deyette Media, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Alison Deyette Media, I help people speak with power—and actually enjoy doing it. I provide media training, on-camera coaching, public speaking prep, pitch refinement, interview strategy, and brand storytelling that doesn’t sound like a corporate press release. Whether it’s an NBA rookie talking to the press after a game, a CEO prepping for a high-stakes investor call, or an actor preparing for a press junket, I tailor the training to the moment and the mission.

My clients include athletes, executives, actors, entrepreneurs, musicians, and thought leaders—essentially, anyone whose job (or next big break) hinges on knowing what to say, how to say it, and how to own the room while doing it. I work one-on-one and with teams, both in person and virtually, and every session is curated to fit the client’s needs, not just a one-size-fits-all checklist.

What sets me apart? I bring decades of experience in front of the camera and behind the scenes. I’ve been the expert being interviewed and the producer deciding which soundbite makes it to air. So I know how to shape a story, but more importantly, I know how to make it stick. My approach is honest, strategic, and direct—with just enough humor to make even the toughest prep feel like something you might look forward to.

Some clients include rising stars from the NBA and NFL, Planned Parenthood Federation, the Virgil Abloh Foundation, Meta, and LAAMP Music Academy. What I’m most proud of is the transformation—watching someone go from unsure or unpolished to magnetic, grounded, and confident. My job isn’t to change someone’s personality; it’s to bring it into sharper focus.

Because in the end, great media training isn’t about perfection. It’s about being prepared, staying real, and knowing how to make your message land.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Let’s start with the obvious: the weather. When I first moved to L.A., my mother—who never cursed, not once, not even when my brother and I were fighting as kids—lives on the East Coast. But now when I call her during the winter months and say, “I’m heading out to play tennis tonight,” she’ll pause and mutter, “Sh#t.” Not out of anger—just pure, weather-induced jealousy.

I love that we can walk to great restaurants, cozy wine bars, and coffee spots from our house. My husband and I have friends who are genuinely stunned when we show up somewhere in the Valley without a car, like we’ve pulled off some kind of local magic trick. Also, the hiking trails don’t hurt—sunshine and endorphins are a hard combo to beat.

Now, the downside: traffic. I sometimes feel that my life revolves around scheduling meetings based on location and time that may have the least amount of traffic going or coming. I’ve tried to turn gridlock into a personal growth zone—I’m now an avid podcast listener and have powered through more than 100 audiobooks. I’m obsessed with Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ “Wiser Than Me,” the enjoyable snarkiness of “Smartless,” and the feel-good, laugh out loud moments of Amy Poehler’s “The Good Hang.” So yes, the 405 might be soul-crushing, but at least I’m laughing while I inch along.
