Today we’d like to introduce you to Alisha Small.
Hi Alisha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. I currently reside in the DMV area since July 2020. I came from very humble beginnings, being the youngest of four children. I also wanted to start my own business, and serve my community, I just didn’t know where to start. In 2016 after working in the education field for over 5 years, I decided I wanted to start a business that would help parents with their hectic day-to-day schedules. That year, I started my first service-based business Dreamer Transportation Services. Dreamer is a private van service for children enrolled in public, private and charter schools.
Once I took that leap of faith, I never came down. In 2019, I took everything I learned from my first business and opened up Keyz Kloset, an online women’s boutique. I started off with a line of motivational t-shirts with sayings I came up with during a time when I was investing in my own personal development.
After opening my businesses, I took some time to address some issues I was having related to struggles with past and unresolved trauma. During that time not only did I become engulfed in my own healing, and growth I became wildy curious about the healing, growth, and advancement of other women. It was at that time; I discovered another passion which was inspirational speaking and personal development coaching.
Unfortanely Dreamer had to close due to the pandemic and school closures. I had to put a pause on Keyz Kloset due to financial issues, not being able to meet high volume of customer demands, and health issues. Intentional self-care saved life and my business. Since 2021 I have opened Living Fulfilled Coaching, rebranded Keyz Kloset to Living Fulfilled Clothing, and working to develop a mentorship program for my nonprofit organization.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have made a lot of mistakes throughout my journey. Being a mother, wife, and businesswoman trying to maintain balance, heal, grow, and equip myself with the tools to deal with the ups and downs life brings is a challenge in itself.
Towards the end of 2019, I started to transition from solely being an entrepreneur to becoming an entrepreneur, speaker, and coach. Shortly after the pandemic hit, my life changed forever. 2020 was one of the hardest years for me and my family. That year, I faced two cancer scares, my marriage was in shambles, I moved my family from New York to Maryland, and I was suffering from high-functioning depression and emotional eating which left me at my highest weight of 330 lbs.
At one of my lowest points, I was left with a decision to make. Do I put my businesses aside and work on my total wellness, or keep working on my business and risk not living long enough to see the fruits of my labor? At the end of the year after having surgery, I made my decision to focus on my health, and my family, and transition to a plant-based lifestyle
Since then, I have seen remarkable changes in all areas of my life. Physically, mentally, and emotionally I am in the best shape I have ever been with managing emotional eating, high functioning depression, and losing over 70lbs. My business is thriving, I’m back in school to expand my services, and my family life is strengthening daily.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At Living Fulfilled Coaching, I partner with millennial women to achieve total wellness by incorporating daily self-care habits and routines that promote a joy-filled lifestyle. I am a thought partner who uses a creative coaching approach to maximize potential in all areas of my clients’ lives. In addition to one on one, group, and corporate coaching, I provide intentional self-care workshop facilitation to nonprofit organizations, businesses, and schools.
What matters most to you?
What matters most in the work I do is that my clients are equipped with the tools to become the best versions of themselves. I believe that each one of my clients come to me with everything they need inside of them to achieve their goals. They just need a partner to ask the right questions that allow them to critically think, challenge them, and hold them accountable. One of my biggest goals is to educate people on what total wellness really is, and the amazing benefits of daily intentional self-care.
