Today we’d like to introduce you to Winston Webb.
Hi Winston, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
It all started around 2008 when myself and my younger brother pierce would sell snow cones to kids in our neighborhood in order to have money for the ice cream truck that would pass by. Then we soon stopped for a while because of us getting into sports later on and kind of forgot about the idea. Around 2015 my younger brother pierce and I were reminiscing and decided that we should try doing it again. By this time, we had another little brother who was ten at the time whose name is Taylor. With an enormous amount of support from our father who goes by Winston, as well as from our grandmother Barbara who passed in January 24th, 2017. Pierce and I were able to obtain a much bigger machine along with a tent and table to match. I would say 2014/2015was the main year when we as a family developed a system which made sense as far as cutting down on expenses and really cutting out a lot of third-party sources and truly being our own supplier. After high school Taylor and myself would work at the farmers market right there by the Gardena sheriff station. We were also vendors for Compton’s Autism walk as well as vendors for Inglewood’s youth flag football and Gardena’s youth football league as well. We’ve had quite a lot of success throughout our company and it’s constantly growing only because of consistency and constant grace from Jesus Christ himself. Our father and grandmother were our biggest supporters, without them none of this would be here till this day.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road wasn’t so smooth while going back and forth to college out of state from 2016 until graduating in 2020. I think the biggest struggle would be just having low numbers and not enough staff to work parties or events while I was out of state. Therefore leaving just my two youngest brothers and my father. Another struggle was definitely losing our grandmother Barbara in the midst of me being away in college. Trying to keep focus in school while dealing with the death of my grandmother who passed away from cancer was definitely a huge setback for the whole family.
As you know, we’re big fans of Kool Kids Snow Cones. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
You should know that our business is a family business. We are shaved ice vendors for parties and large crowd events as well. I think what sets us apart from everybody is the fact that not many people my age or in general are in this type of field. I think what sets us apart is our amazing flavors that we constantly get complimented on, along with our tent set up that we custom made ourselves. Brand wise, I think we’re most proud on not only how many new clients we meet, but how many return customers we have. That speaks volumes to us because it shows that we have a product and people are constantly calling and messaging us via text or Instagram/ Facebook. I want the readers to know that Kool Kids Snow Cones have the best-shaved ice along with the best flavors in the world.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I would say Instagram &Facebook is definitely something that helps us reach a much more broader audience. As far as doing our best at life, I can’t really say there’s an app that does that. Plenty of prayers, a lot of trial and error, and studying definitely helps with the helpfulness of life for us!
