Today we’d like to introduce you to Shawana Ward.

Hi Shawana, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I began my wellness journey back in 2018 when I was transitioning out of a long-term, emotionally abusive relationship. I was trying to get a grasp on my parenting and wanted to do everything in my power not to pass down any generational trauma to my son. When I began practicing meditation, it opened my eyes to my shadow self and just how I had been limiting myself, especially in the ways that I loved, and it changed my entire world. I eventually created a wellness workshop where we use mindfulness and movement to open the chakras by way of meditation, journaling, shadow-work and yoga. I began this journey 1st virtually during the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic and have traveled as far as New York to facilitate. It has truly been an honor to grow, expand, and serve my community.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’d be lying if I said the road was smooth, but what I can say is it has truly been rewarding. I wake up every day with a sense of purpose, no matter how high or low my passion meter may be. There have been so many ups and downs with navigating relationships, choosing the right spaces, and to continue to be consistent as I live the lifestyle I so teach. There have been many tears as to why I’ve had to choose to always be the bigger person and show up resilient, but one thing is for sure, I don’t regret my decision to be the light. This is my life’s purpose. I answered the call. I’m built for this.

As you know, we’re big fans of The Self Love Song LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The Self Love Song is a self-care wellness experience where we use mindfulness and movement to open the chakras and heal the soul. By way of meditation, shadow-work, journaling, and yoga, we implement a 2-hour experience to leave you feeling empowered, grounded, and ready to show up as your highest and most authentic self. There is also a 28-day workbook accompanied by the experience to implement daily breath-work, affirmations, and journaling for a self-care routine to keep you on track. The idea is to provide a space and the tools for our attendees to become so self-aware that they can tap into the super-power of breath and affirming at any moment to change the trajectory of the now. We want our attendees to understand the importance of being their best selves by prioritizing self-care so that we may show up fully for others.

The most rewarding part of the experience is to see attendees leave teary-eyed and of full joy that they understand their worth and now feel capable to go on another day with confidence and trust in themselves. Lives are being transformed by these sessions and for that, we are forever grateful.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I’ve taken some major risks to get where I am and am currently on a leap of faith. I believe that you can plan and prepare as much as you can, but when it’s time to make the decision to expand, you have to make sacrifices. Time is so valuable when it comes to building a legacy, and I had to come to the point where I sacrificed some physical things to have more of it. I am truly glad that I did. I say whatever you value is worth the risk, so take the one that’ll be worth it and truly believe in yourself fully.
